airgun hunting defense
« on: February 03, 2011, 09:40:40 AM »
Do you carry anything for defense when you are airgun hunting or scouting? I don't own any firearms and when i am out scouting new areas i carry my H&K USP CO2 or daisy 1200(snakes and Pythons) in a UTG Deluxe Universal Horizontal Shoulder Holster or Tactical Leg Holster with my Heavy Machete or simline on my pack for brush cutting.

Air rifle hunting i carry my 21" Extendable Police Baton in my pocket. mice/rat hunting with my air handguns i have my police pepper-spray(Whoop *** band Pepper Spray) in the shoulder holster mag pouch.

Defense is a full-time job for me.  I am fortunate in that where I live hiking around with a rifle while scouting is the norm.

Most certainly if I am out with my air rifle/pistol I am more comfortable from a defense standpoint carrying a centerfire handgun as well.

I guess if python's and other snakes were my main concern the machete makes a lot of sense.

Tarus Model 85, with 2" barrel rides my hip when airgunning away from the house.  Coyotes (both two and four legged) are known to haunt my woods
keep em talkin' while I reload

One of my favorite combinations is a large caliber revolver on my hip (.454 Casull or .45 Colt, usually) and an airgun in my hand.  my airgun takes care of the small game, and plus I can spend an afternoon quietly plinking away at rocks and sticks when I'm woodsloafing.  The .454 is there to kill bigger things, whether they just look tasty, or happen to wish me harm.  Although I've seen alot more people that gave me willies that bears, here in Alaska.

Huh! never even thought about it.  I hunt grouse with a break barrel BSA in brown bear country once in a while.  Don't recall ever packing a side arm along - maybe I should.

Naw dand just Cary a couple of grains heavier pellets and you'll be fine.  ;)

I'd rather walk across Alaska unarmed in brown bear country than the alleys of one of our large cities.
