O.K.! I'm back (sort of).
« on: February 03, 2011, 07:03:51 PM »
Well it has been 5 months (plus) since our "House Warming".  We invited the fire companies from 4 of the neighbouring towns to the shin-dig with 4 more on hold for back-up. The inside was just finished a few weeks ago but the outside has a way to go yet. I stopped by briefly to lob an avatar grenade in as a heads-up for youse (y'all). The kid from B*r*o*o*k*l*y*n is back and hanging out on the corner again.

My build is still on hold and will probably be that way for quite a while yet.  My welder is reconnected but everything else is at sixes and sevens.  Still alot to do around here.  My wood supply of 10k worth of carving wood went up in smoke and wasn't covered. Alot of black walnut, cherry, cedar, bass and popple but my rock maple for a future build was in another lumber loft over the garage and is O.K..  My iron and steel was in the shop and garage, so it's still with me.

My wife retired September 1st after 20 years in Special Ed  and everyone wanted to know how she was going to keep busy. DUH!!!  We burned the house; that's how.

So I see things have changed around here with the format. I'll have to look into it later but for now, helloooo to all and my apologies to those who wrote or blogged and those whom I did not answer.  I haven't been here to pull the gray beards for 5 months.  I hope nothing serious has happened to any of you and that you all are well enough or at least surviving.

Keep on truckin'

Rich

Thank you for the welcome fellas.

Today we scattered tin cans around where the new roof is leaking.  It never ends!

Tim: I did included that image as a holiday greeting.

Lance: A friend of ours had what you have. He was treated for it about 15 or so years ago. He got married and he is still driving one of our school buses.

Was just thinking about you recently; our friends' house outside of Syracuse just burned about a month ago. You people over there plays with matches a lot or what?

Of all the chicken-sh## little problems I used to worry over:
Like the (new) wife having to go in for spinal surgery.......
The shop being too cold for me to work on the Mortar during the 6 or 7 days or our winter here.
Compared to your's.....
Not only are my problems small,,,,,, they aren't even big enough to show up on Ground Radar.

My favorite old college roomate, Mike and I were shooting M-1s at cowpies in a 50 mph gale, out on the prairie a few weeks ago and I thought of you.  I mentally kicked myself for not PMing or EMing or some other kind of M-ing you, but I thought you would have more important things to do than reply to my blather.  I was right.  Congrats for the progress you have made so far!        Welcome back, Richard.

What I'm trying to figure out was this:  Why did I think of you at that particular time.  Was it my friend's name, Banaszak?  I don't think so.  I believe it was a sense of incompleteness.  You, with your huge house rebuilding project and he with his incomplete firearms experience.  Despite living for the four years at Norwich with an M-1 on hooks right above your head as you slept,  Mr. Banaszak had never, ever fired one!   We fixed that.  He WILL remember that experience, leaning into that bitter cold wind as he squeezed off eight.

But what is really amazing to me, is the fact that you have kept your sense of humor after losing so much.  That is very inspiring to me, and I am very, very glad you will be around here to add a luster to our fairly plain digs.

One of those things we learn in life is perspective.  I rarely complain about the cold anymore - not since I heard of my friend telling of his father who fought on the Eastern Front - and SAW Moscow.  They did not dare lie down and go to sleep - they'd freeze to death.  They would grab the web-gear of the soldier in front - and go to sleep marching.

We can all learn from Richard - the almost toasted.

You mean to say it's all nothing but a useless pile of soggy ashes now. OY VEY!
