Warne base, Ranger413

Well, I got my base and rings today.  To make a long story short, my scope was sitting sideways and I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn.  Upon removal of the rings, I could tell the base was not lined up with the barrel.  The base seems to have a high spot between the mounting holes allowing it to rock back and forth on the barrel.  And the screw holes look too big for the screws, allowing the base to move side to side.  With the screws just snug, I can move the base about 1/16" side to side.  I was just wondering if you've ever heard of this.  Think I got a "bum" base?

Mine fit perfect.  I screwed down each screw, one by one, to determine if it "bottomed out" in the tapped hole.  Someone else here reccomended checking each screw individually and I did that.  You are putting in one screw and checking to see if the base is snug on the barrel.  Remove that screw and try the next one to see if it snugs the base down.  If any of the screws "bottom out" (i.e. don't snug the base down) you may be needing one of the holes cleaned out (a tap run down it) or one of your screws is too long.

If you have a definate high spot on the base I'd say you have a bum base.  Send it back to whoever you got it from and ask for a replacement.  I'm sorry you've had some bad luck with your first go with the Warne set-up.  Like I said before, mine are great.  So great I bought two sets, and all of my future Encore barrels will wear them.

The screw holes do seem a little oversized for the bolts.  Once you get all of the bolts tightened down, I don't think it can go anywhere.  Haven't had any problems with mine coming loose or accuracy problems.

I think mine definitely has a high spot.  I can sit the Weaver base on the barrel and it fits perfect with no rocking.  Put on the Warne and it rocks back and forth.  I called them and they said send it back for inspection and replacement.  I guess I'll have to use the Weaver base with the Warne rings for now.  Yeah, pretty much my luck to get a bad one on the first get go.

Send it back.  Once you get a new one, assuming its a good one, you'll absolutely love it.  Let me know how hit all works out for ya.  Planning on ordering a new set for this now . . .
