Great topic

Today I spent 3 hours in the dentist chair. That didnt help the cabin fever at all. When I got home, played with my 3 y/o boy. Favorate pass time [ beating on the old man] . When my 9y/o daughters got off the bus. We went for a walk in the woods. I finally got to try out the snowshoes I bought 10 years ago. That was pretty cool. They were getting tired so we tucked in under some pine trees & talked for a few. Next time I ll bring a little day pack with fixings for hot cocoa.  Cabin fever is tuff though.  All you can do is try & get out & burn off some energy.
Cabin fever is real tuff when you got no money.  Ive been doing alot of reading lately. Ive got a couple feeder pigs coming next month, So been doing some reading up on raising pigs. Also been reading up on storing fruits & veggies in a root cellar . part of my basement is crawl space. Been thinking about doing some kind of root cellar.. But mostly Ive been waiting on spring..  Great topic. Glad you posted it.

It started raining so I went outside and got one of my burn piles taken care of. Been dry here for a few days. I started using two of the fireplace logs (dura flame?) to start the fires with , the ones you just light the wrappers on. They get things going pretty fast. I recycle my old tarps to cover the piles and keep them fairly dry. Be glad when it warms up a little bit more. Going to try to get the place fenced (about 8 acres) good thing I got the boys around to help. Might only get half done this year but thats okay to.

I clean and oil mine and my son's many firearms, even though they don't need it. Also, lately I've started playing guitar again since my son has become interested in learning. I aso sketch, paint and nap flint. Now and then I carve canes . Each one is one of a kind and I give them free to disabled vets in need of a cane. Rarely I'll sell one but I've got as much as $265.00 for one of my personal canes.

Ice and Snow has kept me on the Ranch since Monday.  All I've done is feed the livestock and check the ice on the stock pond.  My son was so bored he thought he could check the fences on his 4x4.  He wasn't gone long.  At 17F  he decided to wait till it warms up a bit. :)

Burntmuch- You many not have much money-BUT YOU ARE A MILLIONARE BECAUSE YOU SPEND QUALITY TIME WITH YOUR CHILDREN. The most important thing you can do.

Spirit- beautiful canes. I'm sure the disabled vets really appreciate them.

First I drive four hundred miles to work. Then I work a five day week. Then I drive four hundred miles home. During my 36 hours home I do snow removal and errands for the family and my Dad. I'd give alot for a dose of cabin fever!

Great looking canes SH! You do good work!Did the wood come from the Ozark region?

Here are a couple of mine. I do some of my own, but these two were done by friends. They do much better work than I do ;D

First one is Diamond Willow, and the second one, was done by a friend who carves professionally.

He used wood, cactus, and various pieces of bone, antler, horn and metal.The carving on one side is a Brown bear, and my name on the other side.

One of the few good things about living in Kalifornia is the weather. I never have to worry about cabin fever here. I aways lived in the north and was use to snow and cold untill 2005. I never let it keep me inside. Ice fishing, snow mobiling, target shooting, chores, ect. Anything to get outside. I just get to to that here without little worry of the weather. If I want snow/ice drive 2.5 hours and I can be in the high country. Otherwise, the weather is amazing. Today it was about 72 and sunny like a spring day.

I'm starting to get some cabin fever,  this is the first year in the past 5 that I haven't worked and went to school.  The local college only goes 4 days a week, so friday-sunday gets quite boring with nothing really to do.  I'll be glad to get some reloading equipment to start reloading, but then I will need to find someplace to do some shooting.  Come spring time I'll get out and do some camping and make things better.

The kids will name the feeder pigs, and you will have a very big problem when the pigs get big and thoughts of hams and sausage arise....

Butchering the pigs shouldnt be too bad for the kids. Theyve helped me with deer & we did a couple batches of meat chickens this year. No problems so far. Im taking the pigs to a butcher, so the kids wont have to help. Im sure we wont be eating ham or BLTs for a couple days after the pigs go to freezer camp. But the kids are well aware of where our food comes from.. Which to be honest was one of my goals to raising pigs & chickens

Good luck. 35 years after the fact, my daughter still gets mad at me about us eating a pig she named Gladys as a runt piglet.

Reminds me of when I was raising game birds.  I had a large incubator, and a lady gave me some large goose eggs to hatch for her.  After hatching, she gave me a few of the goslings.  Large Blue Geese.   Well my children were like stair steps back then, and my daughter took to those goslings, and they to her.  Out in the yard they followed her everywhere like she was their mamma.   

Well; time went bye, and those geese were huge.   One of those geese didn't like my youngest son, nor he it.  So,  come Thankgiving we had a large family gathering and that Goose was to be dinner.   As everyone gathered at the table, my daughter's countenance became saddened, and it spread to the whole family.   No one could eat that bird.   Dad and I tried, but with little influence on the others.

Moral of story.  Don't make your dinner into a Pet.  It's hard to swallow.
