Recommend a good Pipe Tobacco that won't break the bank
« on: February 04, 2011, 06:00:34 PM »
I don't know what brand it is but I have some really good stuff called cherry cavendish.  I'm going back to get the same brand in some kind of vanilla.  nice and moist.

you have to look out these days, the cigarette smokers are rolling their own and its not uncommon to see big bags of dry cig tobacco advertised as pipe tobacco
Though taken from established manufacturers' sources and presumed to be safe please do not use any load that I have posted. Please reference Hogdon, Lyman, Speer and others as a source of data for your own use.

Long time pipe smoker here.  Yep you are right about the dry cig tobacco being advertised as pipe tobacco.  Try Smokers Pride or Tobacco Place pipe tobacco if you can find it....I prefer the Whisky blend myself.  I don't particularly care for pipe tobacco on the moist side, but then I don't like it too dry either.  For a number of months now,  I've purchased the dry cig/pipe tobacco and mixed it with my Smokers Pride or Tobacco Place pipe tobacco, which is sometimes too moist to suit me.  Thankfully, I have a Texas Alabama-Coushatta Indian Tribe tobacco store about 30 minutes from me.....saves me a decent amount of money due to reduced amount of tax on it.

Many years ago, I'd buy small pouches of various brands of pipe tobacco to try.  Sometimes I'd smoke two or three bowls from pouch, not like it and then dump it in a large tobacco humidor.  Must have had at least 10 or so various brands/flavors of pipe tobacco in that humidor, purchased over a year or so time period and each one I did not like for one reason or another.  Late one Sunday, I ran out of my regular pipe tobacco.  Wanting a smoke, I remembered the humidor of all the tobacco I didn't like and mixed its contents well before loading my pipe.

Well, I had the best smoke with my pipe I had ever had.  The various brands had blended into and mellowed into the smoothest smoking, nicest aroma, just right on moisture content and etc.   Even had an avid non smoker, who was bothered by any kind of tobacco smoke, one day compliment me one day on its aroma, saying "I'd never thought I ever say this, but I'm enjoying the aroma of your pipe"
