I googled the area last year and found a $50 motel with gas pumps, attached to a home cooking cafe, probably not more than 15-20 minutes from the shoot.  Down home style.  A place where you can keep an eye on your stuff in front of your unit.  Not like  $150 a night and blind to what's going on.  Tim didn't know of the place if I remember correctly.

Floyd is a great little town with several accomodations from very nice indeed to very reasonable. Couple of good restaurants too.  The wife and I really enjoyed last years shoot and plan to make this one too. Hope to have some new artillery to play with as well as last years.  As the reigning champ of the GB mortar competition (2 competitors-CW and me) I'm gonna put up a prize along with VA Rifleman for this years shoot.  Hope to see you there!

It was a bit of a scramble last year.  I WILL make those as awards for this summer's FOURTH Almost Annual New River Valley Mortar and Cannon Shoot.  My appologies for my oversight.

Which is to say, and I'll put it into a new post, that planning is starting for the 4th AARNVM&CS.

Great to hear Little Seacoast is coming.  :D  He has a trove of fine pieces!  Did y'all know he makes big telescopes for grins?

If we are lucky, he will bring the 1/2 scale parrot.

Rick & Tim...Scouting reports have shown that he's been praticing with his mortar.   :o  ;D

Floyd is a right-much good little town.  Lots of off-the-wall establishments and great people.

As you could see in the pix, Dale threw together (20 minutes) a base for his cannon.  He's hot after doin' it right and figuring out how to shoot it.  Already thinking about non-fuse ignition and how to either get pyrodex to work with light (golf balls) or real black powder.

Now it looks like we'll have some competition - perhaps a grudge match.   ;D

Awards are in the making.  I'm planning on a Hand Gonne to the winner of something.
