Apex muzzle loader
« on: February 06, 2011, 05:03:11 AM »
Does anyone shoot one and can you provide insight to them?  I bought a centerfire and am considering adding muzzle loader barrels to it.  Thoughts?

I bought one of the first Apex muzzleloaders back in Aug or Sept of 2009. I have shot a few different loads thru it and got respectable accuracy but not as good as my CVA Optima pro. I am going to try some Blackhorn 209 powder and some different bullets in the next month or two and see what it really likes. I only took it hunting two or three times and had no shots. I tagged my bucks in bow season the last couple of years so I was only doe hunting and did not go out too much in the muzzleloader season.
I really like the gun.  The fit and feel, the trigger, the looks etc. but I really need to shoot it some more. I have mine topped with the Bushnell Trophy 3x9x40 DOA 250.
I may report back later on with some pics if I get time.

Have one with the 50cal barrel and the 30-06 barrel. Both are tack drivers. The only weak spot is the factory base that comes with it. Hangs over the barrels contour and can really hurt accuracy with the centerfire barrels.

100gr blackhorn209 and the 295gr powerbelts @ 100 yards.

That's some good shooting Bigblock.  What powder/bullet combination are you using?

Was it you who posted something about the bases for the Apex barrels and how to make them better?  If so, would you give us a link to it or post it again?

Never mind, I found the post.

Many thanks!

100gr blackhorn209, 295gr powerbelt aerotips, cci 209 magnum primers.

Yeah the base really gave us trouble on the 30-06 barrel. Used the durasight one piece dead on mount, perfect!

2 different groups with the 30-06 barrel @ 100 yards. I don't even bother with a 3rd shot as i know where it will go  ;D
