PLANNING for the 4th AARNVM&CS.
« on: February 06, 2011, 06:39:17 AM »
Planning is starting for the 4th AARNVM&CS (the FOURTH Almost Annual New River Valley Mortar and Cannon Shoot).

Assuming our gracous host agrees again to our shoot in his most beautiful farm, we'll hold it at the same place.  First considerations are that he'lll be there and that the hay will have been mowed.

Kindly let me know of other shoots in the are with which we do not want to conflict.

Memorial Day weekend is out - the good Lord willing and the creek don't rise, I'll be in S.D. doing in P.D.s.

We have a start already on awards from two places - Richard the Generous has donated a variety of things that I should have awarded last year and other participants have volunteered information that they too will bring some "incentives".   Hmmm.  I could knock out a hand gonne ....

Ahemm, is this not the year for the western shoot...

The motion for the western shoot was tabled until the meeting this Tuesday. If you guys are going to plan a shoot this year, then I will let the motion die on the floor and not pursue the shoot in Cut  Bank this year.

We can have a western division portion of the NRV shoot!   ;D

Any chance for cannon shooting in Cut Bank (or is it Cutbank) if I get an extra day after PD hunting in SD around Memorial day?

Memorial day weekend is the peak of Gopher season In Montana, And you can't get here from South Dakota on an extra day. It would take a day to get here, a day to shot and a day to get back to SD.  If you come we will kill gophers, lots of gophers, lots and lots of gophers.

I will withdraw my motion at the Gun club to have a cannon shoot in Cut  Bank this year.

Zulu

Prairie Dogs.  Hungry little varmints that eat the grass/alphalpha down to a nubbin.  Devistate a field and move to the next.  They carry the plague (bubonic) and rabies.  We shoot them from 100 to 400+ yards, I use .223 and .308Win.  Some in the group I go with use .17HMR and .204Ruger.
Fence is 125yds from shooting stands/trucks.

I think we can accomodate them, just have to space things out and plan safety.

With all this talk about a Western shoot, cooking rats and mice, and waiting for a bunch of hay to be cut.........
I might just hold a shoot here, it will be in Floyd co.Va., and Confederate Mountain Rifles will be welcome ;D

'fraid I don't cook rats, p.d.'s or mice.  I just feed them to the cats. (I take that as a responsibility to raise 'em right.)

You've got a great place for a shoot.  Let's schedule it so we can atttend both.

Hmmm, ok, you do have home-court-advantage on knowing the lay of the land.

BUT, Floyd, VA is in the SOUTH, and

I still can't see y'all seceding from the SOUTH!

I get to see beautiful Floyd co. Va. everyday, and can go out in the backyard and shoot cannons and mortars whenever i feel like it. So if something happens and your range don't work out, there is a range here, and you know it ;D

NO.  We will have ONE location for the shoot.  If Dale's father-in-law's place is not available, we will accept Lance's generous offer.  Next year, we may do it differently and plan on Lance's place as the primary site.

Two sites (this close together) for one event guarentees different attendance.  (And DD is worried about our shoot detracting from his!)

I did notice that the motel you found is right-much close to Lance's turf!

Not a bad idea.  Lance - what do y'all think.  We usually do the NRV shoot early in the summer.  Lance, you'll just have to stay alive and well to do the late summer shoot  ;)  .

Well, i like the idea, and want to attend as many shoots as i am able. I'll admit i don't feel good at times, but, i'm still one heck of a shot ;).........One thing i think about is, one day to be able to take what i call "Artillery Weekends".
Maybe one weekend visit Dom and his shop, i think there is a bunch of yankees up there, but, i'm sure he would send me a "through the lines pass" :)..............Then sometime drop in and see Terry C. down in Georgia, another weekend visit the east coast area of Virginia and meet some of the folks on here. That would be a good start for me, if we had two shoots around here, might help me to get motivated.

Let's have some input: What y'all think about me having a cannon and mortar shoot in May, and Tim having a shoot in June?
Both shoots will be in Floyd co. Va., any folks that have extra time to stick around, well, i can play tour guide and show off some neat historic sites.

Like the idea of more then 1 east coast shoot per year.

Would need some notice as at times, I have to schedual vacation to insure I have the weekend off. Spring and fall or maybe spread em out some??  Need to avoid the NSSA dates.

Wish that dang 2.25" mold would arrive.

Hey CW.  DD is planning a siege!!!

Lance, thanks for your many historical insites & post on Col Mosby's book.  My copy should arrive anyday.  :D
