I'm waiting on y'all to tell me what weekend events (as N-SSA shoots/skirmishes/etc) are not available.

I have two weekends open in June (which may not be open for several others).

I will post a pdf calendar, which will reflect the other events when you let me know the dates.

Last year we picked a date and it was not good for several others.  This year we'll ATTEMPT to do it right.

Rich,
I have to admit that this one had me gigglin', but you best take care, or you'll soon see Lance charging through the bushes in your backyard, mounted on his white steed, and his saber drawn, with him yelling the CSA war whoop as he prepares to give you a haircut.

Rich,
I don't know how many here are going to remember the line from "True Grit" where John Wayne tells Glen Campbell: 'If I ever meet a Texican who hasn't drunk water out of his horses hoof print, whyyy, I think I'll shake his hand, and buy him a two dollar ceeegar' (I don't recall the exact line). Well, if I ever meet a New Yawka who doesn'r bring up stickball I think I'll .............., well, I don't know exactly what I'll do, but it'll be somethin' memorable. ;)

When I was on active duty, my favorite question to the NYCers that I met was, "what games did you play with a red-rubber ball".  There were hundreds of them!  My favorite was the comment from a Jewish kid was miffed because his mother, to make sure the ball was CLEAN, boiled it.    :o   ::)

Later in life, I met over the years, some visiting lecturers (Grinnell College) who had scraped up enough gumption/money to go to City College and escaped the city.  Impressive stories of starting with nothing and becoming something very different of one's self.  (From poverty to financial success, but doing it legally - not as a community organizer.)   Ooops OFF TOPIC.

Stick ball is played with a "Pink" ball. Not "red".  It was a "spall-deen" and perfect for my falcon but I use tennis balls instead because they are less expensive (free) and compress to scrub the bore with the fuzz.

There! Now the "Forum-Fuzz" can't bust us for "off-topic".

Stoop ball was another pass-time.

For youse hicks: a stickball bat was a broom stick and a stoop was the front steps (from the Dutch). Yizz see......My accent is very old and regional with Dutch over-tones.  Old New (Amsterdam) York.  The "york",  with the aspirated R is fairly universal; not just New York City.

My affected usage , e.g.  youse, yiz, deez, dose, dat, dem are New York & Boston Irish-speak  (from the immigrants of the 1840's, when the Irish came to the new world because of being starved to death with the potato famine and the Victorian solution to the British "Irish Catholic Problem") is being used by me to dilute the other affected regional speak, e.g. y'all, right-much, rat-nice, etc..

As for the "aw-r" in york; allow me to propose this: How is the "yor" as "yawr", different from "yawr", as in, "the land of yore"?

Ahh you see?  The pot often calls the kettle "black".

Crackers say "hollER"; not "hollow"; so perhaps the hunchback cannot see the hump on his own back?

Me?  I live in in the mountains in "Archibald Hollow"!

I can seriously tell you why the southerners speak the way they do ( "African Mammy Syndrome") but we ain't gawnuh git uh-way wit diss tred if DDs stirrin.

With all the foreign aid that gets sent to that part of the country  I bet it would be hard to find a person from there under 40 who ever played stickball.

I can't speak for anyone else but I will only be able to attend 1 event early this summer, two so close together in time will probably limit the participation at both to you to the local group- say 60 mile radius.  This may give a very small attendance to one or both shoots.  CW can certainly  correct me but there were less than a dozen last year.  Shoots spaced a little farther apart might  work better.  Just a thought. Looking forward to seeing everyone again this year.

Dale and I (Dale because he is asking his father-in-law for the use of the 'range').
As you note from the listing, there are a LOT of conflicts for different folks and June 7th looked like the most opportune date in June; you'd indicated you wanted to do one in May a month out.  We, in the past, have tried to get dates first in June and sometimes it worked out later.

THAT leaves May wide open for you to plan the other Floyd County shoot.  I've listed the dates I'll be in S.D. for PD hunting.  Other dates are the N-SSA related events and some ASSRA dates when Dale & I will be at single-shot rifle matches.

Go for it!  We're not in competition with each other; just offering more opportunities for folks.  As M&T mentioned, they won't be in the neighborhood for the proposed June 11 shoot. Perhaps next year.

You will have your choice, if Lance plans his close in date to the proposed June 11 NRV shoot.  If he picks a date when I'm not out of town/state I'll be there & it'll be good to see y'all.

I agree, spacing them out may be better, but maybe not.  I'm just taking responsibility of maintaining a tradition of an informal mortar/cannon shoot for folks that like shooting.  Much bigger and we loose the personal time of discussion and interaction.

Well, one way to look at it is that i've already had the first Floyd shoot of the year, the one we had on the 5th.
It would be o.k. with me if we had a shoot every month, what can i say, i like to shoot cannons and mortars.
The first AANRVM&CS was on July 7th, why change it to June?

This is the 4th one.  Every time, we've tried to establish it first in June.  It may not work out balancing everyone's schedule and might not happen in June.  It's not just tying up the horses it's negotiating the published available dates with all the family activities of the familiy and relatives of the owners of the property.  That alone takes a week or two of calls and talks.  You have the luxury of picking a date and doing it - enjoy.

That sounds like the NRV Invitational where the proposed June 11 one is the NRV Open.

I'll start another topic for the "CONYANRVC&MS"
The date will probably be May 7th, i see no need to start the topic until sometime in April.
Y'all will have to remember i'm fighting cancer and going through chemo, but, if i'm still alive, May 7th will work.

If you wait until the last minute you may force some folks to cancel plans they'd made previously (except for the Yankees that aren't invited).

Suggest making a primary and alternate date.
