mod 7360
« on: December 19, 2003, 05:59:36 AM »
Does anybody have any experience with the mod 7360 or the 360 DW?  I am in the market for a new 357 revolver and am sold on getting a Dan Wesson but cannot decide whether to get the 715 or the 7360.  I like the idea of having more power than a 357 mag, but don't want to go all the way up to the 357 SuperMag.  (I've had a good experience with the latter in a tc contender, but am looking for a gun that is not as big and bulky as the 740.)  I sure can't seem to find much information about this gun/cartridge on the net, so any help you guys can give would be appreciated.

Thanks, Scott

I recently purchased a 7360 SRS-1 and I believe it is the finest revolver made.  It seems to shoot everything well, even 357 Magnum.  I would highly recommend it. :P

b1pete,

Thanks for your reply!  I was beginning to think that nobody actually owned one of these.

You mentioned that they shoot everything well.  Does this include 38 special?  I was wondering if the accuracy of this round would suffer due to the longer distance between the seated bullet and the throat of the barrel.

The one thing holding me back is the price difference over a 715.  I would like to pick one up used, but there doesn't seem to be too many around.

I don't think their are alot of them out yet, and I know I wouldn't give mine up for anything, I have not shot 38's in mine yet just concentrating on 360 loads.  Been shooting H110 (don't go above 20.5 grains, cases get hard to remove.) with 180 grain bullets with speeds in the 1550 range for 20 grains of H110.  Be sure and get the SRS-1 I know it costs more but the sights are excellent and the action is flawless.  This gun is perfect for silly wets.  Buy one and all you will want to do is shoot it. :D

You might go to the IHMSA silhoutte website and post there.

You also might check with mike rowles.  He is big into Dan Wessons and is shooting one in silhouette. his email is dw7360@netscape.net

Just for some perspective - I have 2 IHMSA friends that have bought the 360 - one has the 8" blue, and the other 8" stainless. The owner of the stainless gun has just received his back from the 2nd long stay at the factory. Gun was built with excessive headspace, and would misfire on at least 2-3 shots per cylinder. The factory kept telling him that the Starline brass he was using was defective. We said "BS", so, to prove them wrong we tried some factory Winchester 357 Mag ammo to test. Guess what - same results ! Hopefull they have fixed it this trip. The owner of the blue 360 has had problems with the cylinder unlatching when he fires the gun. The cylinder is counter-rotating. The gun also has a timing problem. I was a long time Dan Wesson user - in fact, I fired the 2nd ever IHMSA revolver 40x40 in 1982 with a model 15-2H8 357 Mag. From what I have seen the 360 is only marginally better that a 357 mag, because you run into the same problems that you get when using pistol bullets in single-shots - the faster you start a bullet - the faster it slows down ! At the ram line you will not notice much difference. But, one advantage of the 360 is you have the big-frame platform, so, in theory, should hold up better. Even as a long -time DW user and supporter - I would be very leery of buying one of the new guns - from what I have seen personally. (my opinion) ----- Philip Braud

Hate to hear about the 360 problems.  On the 360 being marginally better than a 357 Mag. I believe that was the whole purpose, to knock over the hard set rams without all the recoil of a 44 Mag.  Just a little more Ooommph than the 357 Mag.  The quality issues really trouble me, I bought 2 DW's last year, one a standard 44 Mag. blued 8".  I also had trouble with the cylinder latching up but found it to be the case extractor pin that screws into the cylinder to be loose.  I have to check this occasionally as it catches on the frame not letting the cylinder latch properly, no big deal just finger tighten and start shooting.  Other than that it has been excellent.  But with the higher price they are charging they need to be sure what they are letting get out the door is 1st class or they will be in trouble in a hurry.  Hope they get it right and let us know how it turns out good or bad.  Like I said earlier I really like my SRS-1 360.
