hunting with my mossy 183 ka
« on: February 06, 2011, 07:02:38 AM »
I went out the other day just to see what I could kick up, well two bunny's and a squirrel later I was a happy camper. So I got to wondering if there's anyone else who hunts or just shoots a 183 mossy out there  just a thought.

I had and hunted with several Mossberg bolt action 410's (183Ka, 183D and Wards version of the 183).  Some were just full choke, some with screw on choke tubes and one with a Select choke. All were good, light and  reliable shotguns for small game.  I also used a Mossberg 500E 410 pump for some time with a modified choke barrel, also a good gun for small game.  However, as the cost of 410 shells just kept going up and the use of non-toxic shells was becoming more common (by law in some areas) I've moved to a light 20 gauge Mossberg 500c with a 24 inch accu choke barrel.  Not quite so light but, boy, is the ammunition more affordable.  Especially the non-toxic shells.  All are very good guns with lots of good memories for me.

I've got a 183KE with C Lect choke. I don't hunt, but collect firearms and enjoy shooting. I like 410's as farm yard varmint control items. In 410 I've got a single, a SXS double, and the Mossberg bolt.
Yesterday I picked up an abused mossberg 85D (that's a 20 ga made between 1940 - 1946). I alway carry a shotgun when I go out at dusk to put the chickens up for the night, with the 85D I won't have to worry about it getting wet on rainy evenings.

i have the 12ga version (395 I think). Every once in a while I will pull it out for a little squirrel hunt or just to fire off a few shots. There is something about shooting a bolt action shotgun that is just plain fun!
