Could use a little help with this one.
I just put a 22-250 barrel on one of my extra frames.
It locks up tight but doesn't quite have the free play in the barrel release that it should have.
I am sure it just needs a little stoning on the shelf.
No big deal.
I haven't done it yet as I am not sure I am going to keep it on this frame.
My real problem is when you pull the hammer back the transfer bar hangs on the bottom of the firing pin.
It doesn't do it all the time and if you pull the hammer back quickly it will work correctly 90% of the time.
If you pull it back slowly it will hang at least 99% of the time.
As the bar slides up it hits the bottom of the firring pin which prevents the hammer from going back.
If you raise the muzzle up in the air the bar falls back and clears the firring pin every time.
I have never run into this on a Handi before.
The gun shoots very well using Winchester white box 45gr HPs but I did have a lot of FTFs.
8 out of a box of 40.
Somewhat light on the primer strikes but not overly so.
I didn't have any other ammo with me to try so at this moment I can't say 100% if it is a firring pin problem or the ammo.
While typing this I stopped and did somemore checking on this gun.
It is a new CBA frame.
The barrel latch is locking even across the shelf but only about 3/32" so I am sure it would need a little work.
Pulled out a couple of my extra frames, an HX and a NW.
After removing the barrel and compairing the three I could see some differences between the two older frames and the new CBA.
The top front of the transfer bar that slides up over the firing pin has a slight bevel or roundness to them on the older models.
The bar on the CBA frame has none at all.
I am sure this is what is causing the bar to hang against the bottom of the firing pin.
Should be an easy fix once I take it apart.
Will have to study up on the disassembling part first!!!
I tried the barrel on the other two frames.
A little loose on the HX but a really good fit on the NW.
I will try the ammo in this setup and see if I still have a FTF issue.
If not, then it is the CBA frame.
If it still happens then it could be the ammo.
I will give an update on the FTF issue.
Now, after you have done a lot of reading, and it seems that I have fixed my problem as far as this barrel lockup goes by switching frames, am I on the right track about the transfer bar problem in the CBA frame?
