Butchering of our National Anthem
« on: February 07, 2011, 02:44:57 AM »
Is it just me, or is anyone else as disgusted as I am about these......Hip Hop, Be Bop singers or whatever you want to call them, slaughtering our National song?

I am embarrass for the country :(. The press is making a big to do about this blond bimbo messing up the words.............That's only a small part of it! In my opinion the Anthem should be performed with pride, not like a bar room ballad. From now on, I won't watch the opening of a major public event. If they are not capable of singing the anthem, the way it was written, then they should keep their damn mouth's shut! "JMO"

I saw it was the anthem and stood,  Yes I stood in my living room.
And while she did vary from the song in carring a few notes here or there.  I was still the anthem.  kind of like the Ray Charles version of America Mark Lavine Plays at the end of his show on fridays.  Same song different twist to it.  But you have to know the words.  No if ands or butts.
I think she was repsectfull of it.  Unlike Rosanne Barr that screached the anthem and then grabed her crotch.

Seems like every hip hop sleaze seems to think that they need to sing OUR National anthem THEIR way. BULLCOOKIES. Sing it right, the way it was written or SHUT UP. It should be sung with pride and reverence, and by somebody that actually knows all of the words. POWDERMAN.  >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

I believe the biggest and worst slob to do it was Roseanne  Barr. Afterward she said, I thought it would be funny after she screamed it out, all off key of course. It was a joke to her. The Natl Anthem should be sung by somebody who really loves America, and believes the words. POWDERMAN.  :o :o

Respectful?????? Vary a little from the way it was written???? I guess we disagree! If it hadn't been for a couple of words she had right, It would have been almost unrecognizable. Ray Charles sang America the Beautiful..........Not the National Anthem. BIG DIFFERENCE.

Most young people today would prob. agree with you, and it's sad, we haven't taught them better :(

If I was going to sing the National Anthem in front of 111 million people I would at least KNOW THE WORDS.

Most of you whiners couldn't write down the lyrics given twice the time it takes to sing it.

OK the word thing is bad.
But I am also thinking of how Jimmy Hendrix played the national anthem on the guitar.  Same song just a different twist.

Forgetting the words could have been an error that could be forgivable, but the Nathional Anthem is words and music and the way she butchered the music with her own opera-wannabe notes is inexcusable.

I'm sure all the branches of the service have their own singing groups. It would be great to see one of them sing it. You would know it would be done absolutely correct, with dignity and respect.

Christina Agulera, Maria Carey, all those diva types with the fake voices should never be asked to sing the National Anthem.
The difference between people who do stuff and people who don't do stuff is that the people who do stuff do stuff.

You're certainly above average.  A B+ would even be able to spell all the words correctly.  Anybody can sing it a crowd.

An A+ would be to sing the second and third verses.

The National Anthym should be performed as it was written, and just as it is played for white house functions.  It is our national heritage put to music.  It is reverent and should be respected.

No group has the right to change the way it can be sung or performed.  It is not subject to artistic interpretation.  You should no more change the way the anthym is played than change the words to the Lords Prayer, Bill of Rights, etc.  There is just one version - period!

And yes I served this nation, and I get chill bumbs when it is played correctly.

They should just let opera singers sing it.  They would do it the way it is written and they are the best professional singers in the business.

This is how they should do the National Anthem, and stop letting "singers" show off.

Offensive yes, but not as offensive as they way they are butchering our Constitution.

I have to agree with Billy.  Much more worried about the butchering of our Constitution.

Thanks Chaps!   Sometimes I skim over the Bravo Sierra and get right to the point.  ;).  I freely admit that I get a bit misty eyed when I hear the Anthem and rate it as my favorite song. There has, through our nations time been many military guys and gals who have given and never expected reward or thanks. Some never to be returned to their nation but buried with their comerades in some small patch of soil. There is a reverance there and it should not be trifled with. Sad that some do not have the capacity to understand that. If you are ever at a sporting event or like get together, and hear somebody say "Take your hat off, or remove your cover" followed with the word puke, it could be me  ;).

I saw/heard Ted Nugent do the National Anthem  last week on fox. Guitar solo. I thought it was great. All Americans should respect our anthem, played or sung. Bring to the performance what you got, voice, guitar, tuba, violin or whatever. While respect is waranted, worship is not.
