Connecticut National Guard Detachment 2, Company I, 185th Aviation Regiment of Groton has mobilized and will deploy to the Sinai Peninsula, Egypt, to support the Multinational Force and Observers.
The unit left Connecticut Jan. 15 for Fort Benning, Ga., for further training and validation. The unit operates C-23C Sherpa aircraft and has deployed three times in the last seven years in support of the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The unit will provide an on-demand aviation asset to the Multinational Force and Observers commander to support its mission of supervising the security provisions of the Egypt/ Israel Peace Treaty.

Yesterday, the Los Angeles Times reported:
The Pentagon is moving U.S. warships and other military assets to make sure it is prepared in case evacuation of U.S. citizens from Egypt becomes necessary, officials said Friday. The Kearsarge, an amphibious assault ship carrying 700 to 800 troops from the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, and the Ponce have arrived in the Red Sea, putting them off Egypt’s shores in case the situation worsens.
Pentagon officials emphasized that military intervention in Egypt was not being contemplated and that the warships were being moved only for contingency purposes in case evacuations became necessary.
In addition to the Marines, the Kearsarge normally carries around four dozen helicopters and harrier jets that would permit evacuations and other humanitarian operations, the officials said. More than 1,000 Marines from the Kearsarge were sent to Afghanistan last month on a temporary deployment, leaving roughly one-third still aboard, officials said.

The Kearsarge is an attack vessel.
As Wikipedia notes:
In carrying out her mission, Kearsarge not only transports and lands ashore troops, but also tanks, trucks, artillery, and the complete logistic support needed to supply an assault.
The assault support system aboard ship coordinates horizontal and vertical movement of troops, cargo and vehicles. Monorail trains, moving at speeds up to 600 ft/min (3 m/s), transport cargo and supplies from storage and staging areas throughout the ship to a 13,600 square feet (1,260 m2) well deck which opens to the sea through huge gates in the ship’s stern. There, the cargo, troops and vehicles are loaded aboard landing craft for transit to the beach. The air cushion landing craft can “fly” out of the dry well deck, or the well deck can be flooded so conventional landing craft can float out on their way to the beach.
Simultaneously, helicopters are brought from the hangar deck to the flight deck by two deck-edge elevators and loaded with supplies from three massive cargo elevators.
Kearsarge’s armament suite includes the NATO RIM-7 Sea Sparrow point defense system for anti-aircraft support, RIM-116 Rolling Airframe Missiles, 25 mm chain guns and the Phalanx close-in weapon system to counter threats from low-flying aircraft and close-in small craft. Missile decoy launchers augment the anti-ship missile defenses.

This is NOT good news.  At least we have a CIC who will let the military make the decisions and who will not micro-manage everything.

If you had any real knowledge in what is going on in the military today, you would understand just how stupid this statement is.

I'm quite sure TeamNelson will enlighten you on just how dumb of a statement you just made.

junior. Wrong as usual. If military decisions were left up to them they would not be reading the godless ones their rights, there would be no medals for not returning fire, and all would be allowed to carry loaded weapons. POWDERMAN.  :o :o

I sure do.  Take the Bainbridge pirate incident for example.  Rumsfeld & Cheney would have micro-managed it until the pirates captured the Bainbridge.  Obama took his time, decided the best course, then let the Bainbridge captain make the decisions.

You got to be kidding me!

Whats even more stupid here is the fact that the US is even commenting on the Egypt situation. Lets these people settle thier own internal dispute. What business is it of ours at all........

Oh good. The billions sent there in the past wasn't enough that we have to send a few million more? To what, prop up some tyrannical putz. That the people of egypt don't want no less. What happened to all the democracy the leftist are so eager to spread? Is clinton and chairman "O" now so against democracy in other lands that they commit our troops to take it away? I can see the biggest hypocracy of the 21st century right in front of our eyes happening right here. "We're undertaking this action to spread democracy". "But if the peoples wishes are other than our own we'll use military force to ensure our flavor of democracy"!
WHY, when egypts own troops refuse to take part one way or the other do we need to send our troops to a sovereign nation to enforce tyranny?

One of the worse steps ANY nation can take, is to commit their troops, to ensure that a hated leader stays in power. Add the people of egypt to the list that hates us now.
WE should not commit troops to egypt!!!!!
The downward spiral continues.

WHERE! In our Constitution is it permissable for troops to be deployed to ensure that the leader of a sovereign nation stays in power?

This is the only thig that matters to me. And you are 100% correct. No place in our constitution does it permit or even remotley suggest that our troops are to be used in these foriegn conflicts.

I am with you Pat/Rick. However is is important to understand that many years ago, we transitioned from a republic to an empire. Puppet governments like Egypt, which do your bidding for a mere 2 billion dollars a year must be perpetuated, even if the name of the satrap must be changed. The people there don't matter. They will not always be obedient. But as Rome, (which was a republic until the presidents, err Caesars, usurped power), became overextended requiring the defacing of the currency to support the debt bringing an end to all things Roman. So, that is what happened to all empires that ever existed in history.
The constitution became a dead document when the people ceased to be a check on government which will always do everything it can to grow in power and size until it implodes on itself. When the parasite sucks all the blood out of the host, they will both die.
The sole purpose of government is to protect your liberty. The Constitution is not to restrict the people, but to restrict government.  Ron Paul

GaryG, Yessirree. So many times I have thought how much our footsteps parallel those of the Roman Empire. And  like the R empire, how many regions had to figure out their own survival when they no longer had the riches of Rome "carrying" them. I only hope our legions are home when we run out of gas money. Will the homeless here tear down buildings of the empire for the materials to build their new homes?

Another unnecessary war for ISRAEL.

We talk about bringing democracy to the world, and then when common people rise up to  create their own democracy we're deploying troops to use against them if they vote the wrong way?

Enough is enough.  NO MORE WARS FOR ISRAEL.
