A 357 Magnum is probably not very feasible in a Glock due to the rimmed cartridge, but I like sticking to common ammo and have other guns that shoot 357 Mag.   I don't remember ever seeing 10mm at Wally World.

It funny you mentioned 10mm.  I've got a 6" Glock 10mm barrel that I picked up maybe 15 years ago.  I've had it packed away for years.  I believe I bought it through GSSF, but I no longer remember.  It fits in my Glock 21.  I don't remember if it was sold as a hunting barrel for a Glock 21 or if I was thinking about buying a Glock 20 someday.  I may pick up a 10mm magazine at the next gun show and see if 10mm will cycle through my Glock 21 with this barrel.

S&W made an auto to shoot 38 wad cutters and there are 1911's that do also. OAL would be a factor and a slide and frame may be needed for a 357 mag gun dedicated to it . Mag reserch also has a 357 mag auto or did .
I don't think your 10 mm bbl would not work well or reliable as the rim of the 10mm case is smaller than a 45 ACP case.
I have a 10 and like it alot. When pushed to compare it to a revolver round i pick 357 mag. Some say 41mag. but if they look it never reaches 41 mag preformance, comes close .
Now if you really wanted to wish for a new round , maybe one of the 38 super type rounds would be nice . Put your thoughts in reverse a bit and come up with a revolver that shoots 38 super with clips .  ;)

357 sig is a very good calliber , Tenn hwy patrol carry them to this day unless they have changed very recently. It is a 40 cal case necked down to take a .357 cal bullet, very accurate and very hard hitting, Have this calliber myself and love it. Glock 40 caliber mags,  can also be used in place of the 357 sig mags if you want to carry extra ammo on board

357 Sig,
Isn't that a 40 cal case necked down to .355 (9mm)?

straight wall, rimmed  cartridges seem hard to do in a mass produced semi auto pistol other than a 22.yes i know it can be done and has been done. but why does it seem so hard?anybody who put out a reliable 357 gun in a auto would be backed up for years to meet demand. a 357 1911 would sell like hotcakes. they would never be able to meet demand.coonan couldnt do it. they went out of biz.desert eagle does it but ther 357 guns are rare.they did make one if memory serves me and it dont always.im not a expert on this subject just curious what is the prob in a 357 semi auto pistol?

Because a large force uses a cal. dosen't make it the best choice or a good choice. It can but not all the time. If there are small or weak members on the force a lighter kicking round may get picked.
Try a .38 cal round if you could Glock to build it and someone to make ammo. Not a .355 or .357 but a true .38

Coonan was at Ahlman's shooter roundup Sept 27,11.
I shot there 357mag 1911, it shot great, if I had a job I would have one.
They had about 8 reps talking to people. About $1200 starting.

The 9X25 Dillon is the real equal of the .357 magnum and is just a drop in conversion for a Glock 20 or 29.

schuetzen yes the 10mm barrel will work just fine in the 21. Only factor is you might want to bump up to a heavier recoil spring if you want to use true 10mm loads.

SHootall as far as a 10 not quite reaching a 41 true but as far as the 10 being the same as a 357 heck just look at the hornady manual the 10 has 200fps more with any given weight. Add a heavier recoil spring and you've jumped another 50-70fps. (really saves on the frame to) as far as factory ammo yeah a 10 is right there with a 357 except for double tap who accually loads 10mm rounds. Also a glock 20 holding 15rds compared to even a 8 shot 357  and the glock is half the price ( usually of a smith 8 shot revolver) Sorry about the rant but when folks compare the 10mm to a 357 there really is no comparing.

I have a G-20 and 357 and compare factory offerings . In that case the 10 is better in vel. but not in bullet shape . The SWCHP in a 357 mag. is hard to beat .

and this.

When it finally dawned on me that I could go out and buy a a glock for $500 that was more powerful than a 357mag I was happy to make the change.  I had mine out at the range yesterday and with the pierce grip extensions putting the mag capacity at 17+1 I just can't find a reason to complain about it.  As far as I'm concerned about pistols, there's only a need for a 22lr and a 10mm.

Here , new with night sites $620+ . Ok lets put it on the table. I have a G-20 , S&W 357 mag. and a Colt Delta Elite. The Colt is the most accurate , The S&W is close . Both Colt and S&W have good - great triggers.
The Glock trigger stinks PERIOD IMHO.It does not lead to target accy.  Yes I have learned to shoot it but still think in all but self defense situations its a waste , and both the S&W and Colt trigger has worked long before tupperware guns were a dream.
So what gun goes hunting as a back up , what gun rides in the truck as self defense ( in Va. many places won't allow a loaded rifle/shotgun to be transported on the road) .? and what gun goes fishing ? what gun gets shot most ? Well a 357 goes fishing with snake shot, but often the Glock is along. As for the other three Glock. So my statements are what I experince from over 5 years of use with the 10 mm. A 357 mag is my pocket gun , J frame But the 20 is in truck alot.
I compare the 10 to a 357 because it fits the same use.
You make a very important point if power is needed on target the G-20 will give you the chance to unload alot of power pills on the target time allowing .
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

Sadly i think it would sell. First time gun buyers have probably heard of both glock and the 357 and would think great! Shooters on the other hand would laugh because the 357 is a field cartridge best utilized with fine sites and crisp trigger at long ranges. Glocks however are designed for shooting someone off your back after they've stabbed you. People still carry 357's in j frames because a 40 cal would no longer be a j frame.

TN HWY Patrol still uses the 357 Sig in a G31....They switched from the G22 (40 S&W) ,because of the great penetration of the 357 Sig round ..the 125gr 357 Sig ..is very similar to the 357 Mag with 125gr. which is know as a proven Man Stopper ..by epic proportions

I have a G20 (10mm) which I feel would be the best choice ..with full house loads , that is..

but look at the bullet profile of both and one can see the JSWHP of the 357mag is superior to the bullet in the 357 sig. It would be the difference a large wound channel vs a kniting needle hole.

I'd hate to trust the difference to "nick the right part"  ;)

As far as shape, I would agree if shooting cast bullets, but there are some fine JHP bullets on the market in both calibers now days.... ;)

Trouble with luck is you never know which side it is riding with. I shoot a glock 31 in 357 sig and am happy with. I always preferred a 1911 in 45 acp but have had to scale down. Actually all I can tolerate right now is about a mag full. When I got my first 357 sig I could shoot it about 200 rds but my condition with my hand is getting worse.
The sig round was made to duplicate the old 125 gr 357 mag police load from revolver days, in a auto pistol. It seems to do this pretty well.

It can be done. I remember the Coonan (sp). It was a 1911 platform .357 mag.
Savage
I remember the Coonan and the Auto mag in 30 Carbine but the grips were so long it would not fit in most hands.  Take a stack of AA batteries and that was about the length of the grip.

I think the 10mm necket to 9mm or to .357 making a 357 Sig Mag would be easier.
I think it woulod be easy to get a 125 grain bullet to 1400+ Fps out of the necked 10mm case to equal the great man stopper.

Possibly a new version of the Mauser 96 in 357 mag would work, if the Italians get into making WWI reproductions.

The 10mm case necked to 9mm is the 9x25 Dillon, and it is hot, at least as hot if not hotter than a 357, period.  Any 10mm pistol will convert to this chambering and I'll bet that in a 1911 platform with good sights this would be a good varmit round or maybe even a good silhouette round.  I think the 125 gn 9mm bullet from the 9x25 is somewhere over 1500'/sec with the 147 gn slug being right at 1500'/sec.  You can't beat that with a 357.
A 357 will put a 200 gn slug out the barrel at 1335'/sec, or so Winchester sez:  the 10 doesn't do that.
Hillbill: the 38 Super is a straight walled rimmed (semi-rimmed) cartridge and pistols for it are mass produced.  I also think S&W makes a custom revolver for the 38 Super or some other specialty caliber similar to it.

Dispite the movies they are a little hard to carry for everyday and you would have to be Andre' the Giant to carry one conceeled.
