Do you have to load it long to touch the rifling. Got rid of my Rem 700 Bob short action never could get close to the rifling, to short of  a mag. My No.1 06 made in 1977 is so long you can only use 180gr. bullets to touch the rifling and have enough in the neck to hold the bullet.

the 257 featherweight i owned was the same way. It was a long action but had a mag block in it that limited it to what a short action would be. Even after I removed it i couldnt seen bullets out long enough to touch the rifleing that still would work in the mag. That gun was a dismal shooter. best load ever went 2 inch and most were around 3. Dirty shame as i really like featherweights.

Lloyd, I noticed my model 70 had the short mag and I never could get it to shoot real good.

This Remington 700 cdl is a short action and so it's limited on bullet seating. I loaded some 120 gr game kings and had to seat them real deep to go through the action. I can't shoot it yet dur to recoil after the surgery. But I think I'll see how far short they are from the lands.

well the new 1a is here and its a beauty. Real nice wood. Its in the box going back to ruger though. I loaded some test rounds and was getting about 50 percent missfires. I got looking at the fired brass and the primer strikes were off center and very light. Sure is a little beauty though. Im sure ruger will get it straighted out.
