Handi .500 Ammo
« on: February 09, 2011, 12:14:19 AM »
I bought a Handi .500 barrel from frgerald.  It should be here today or tomorrow.  I went to Sportsmans Guide and found 40 Magtechs for sixty some odd bucks and I have 20 dollars worth of coupons, so I thought it was a good deal to get started........The guide came back and said they couldn't ship ammo to my Michigan zip code.  How and when did that take place.  I've bought ammo from them for years.  I posted basically the same thing on the Michigan forum, but I thought there was more activity here.

Tim, if ya wanna dump this, go ahead.  I know it is out of place.

I called them and found out why......It's Handgun ammo.

Tim, go ahead and dump this thread, thanks.

That is a crazy law.
It is only handgun if you own one.
What about all the other calibers that is called handgun ammo even though it is used in a rifle?

Take just these three cartridges, they are all considered handgun, can you order these in Mich?
44mag, 357mag, 38 special plus others.
I would guess not.

That's like for years some places wouldn't sell you 22 rimfire ammo if you were under 21 unless you told them it was to be used in a rifle.
If it was for a rifle you could buy it across the counter at 18.
Makes no sense!!!
Just more dumb laws.

Frank, you are so right, just more dumb laws and too much government.  We HAVE  got to put an end to this.  The really stupid thing is that I bought all the components to make them from Midway today without a problem.

OMG!  ::) It's a MONSTER HANDGUN ROUND, It's a 50CAL, It's A BLACK RIFLE!
Give me a break!!!  :P
Ain't many crooks carring 500s and most people don't realize when the so called "BLACK RIFLE" first came out it was only a 22 cal.
Didn't matter the caliber, it looked BAD!!!
Asparagus looks bad until you taste it.  ;)
If people would get in the real world and try to understand things instead of being so closed minded I believe the world would be a much better place!!!

It's not the dealer, it's the State of Michigan.  I just got off the phone with my State Rep's office and told them it is an infrigement to my Second Ammendment rights and want it changed.  It's just bull crap......you can have the gun but you can't buy the ammo.  It shouldn't matter if it is for a hangun or a rifle.  It is OUR right to have it.

It's the same old BS, Pete.  But honestly, I am not paying anybody $3 a round for ammo.  Load em up the way you like them and enjoy your 500.  It's a hoot to shoot.

I live in Massachusetts.  I can't get the following shipped into the state.

Ammo, of any kind, including "ammunition components" brass, bullets, primers, powder
Knifes
Lasers
Mags over 10rounds

Mind you, there is no actual law prohibiting this, but the AG threatens anyone who ships into the state with all sorts of fines/lawsuits etc.  Gun Owners Action League, a MA base firearms rights group, has been fighting this for years, to no avail.

That's what I did, born and raised in Mass but couldn't take it any longer so I went north to the Live Free or Die state which is the last bastion of hope in New England. There is a bill going through the house right now to make New Hampshire just like Vermont and Alaska - no carry permit necessary, anyone except convicted felons will be able to carry concealed without a permit.

I remember back over the summer here when mass was complaining that our lax gun laws in maine are contributing to there crime problem again.  Apparently people are getting a maine ID as they have a second residence in maine and transporting firearms into mass as a face to face transfer in maine is really cut and dry.

As it turned out, they weren't banned by the State.  Sportsmans Guide's legal department determined these 400 gr. Jacketed Softpoints were armor piercing, and can't ship APs to Michigan.  What a bunch of crap.  This is exactly what happens when people are installed in positions to make decisions on what they know nothing about.  We have a whole government full of them too.

If those SPs are AP then so are all the other 'sporting cartridges' with SPs everybody sells!
Slippery slope.......
Will enough calls to management do anything? Bottom line is, well, the bottom line and they are supposedly in business to make money. Hit 'em where it hurts?

Those clowns running the show in Mass have been trying to blame the 3 northern New England states for their crime problems for years. They refuse to look in the mirror and realize that it's their foolish socialist policies that is the root cause of all their crime problems. I'd like to hear those Massholes answer this question - "If the lax gun laws of the 3 northern New England states are to blame for your rampant crime problems then how come those same 3 northern New England states don't have anywhere near the amount of crime that Massachusetts does?".
