710,715,770 are all relatively new (in the past 10 - 15 years I think) and basically a twist on the same action. 798's were imported from Eastern Europe perhaps CZ? They were basically a commercial Mauser action I think. 788 was Remington's no frills multi lug action (9) lugs 3 rows of 3, discontinued sadly some years ago. They had a detachable mag which was the worst part of the rifle because it was right in the carry point, plain jane stock. Otherwise these 788's had a wonderful reputation for accuracy and often were reported to out shoot the top of the line 700's. I'm sure you can find this info on their website as well. Wish I had my 788 back.

Stick with the M700 or Model 7.  The others are different.

788s were as pretty as a 2x4 but were real shooters. The 710/715 tend to have quality control problems and for a few more bucks you can buy the lower line 700s which are a much better gun. Local walmart has cammo figerglass stocked 700 adls with mounts and a cheap 3x9 for under 450 bucks. Thats a hard to beat deal.

Country boy

Just look for a plain ol' 700 Remington as were your thought . You might have the trigger tuned if it is going to be a used unit . Other wise if it's going to be a Remington - ;Dgo for it .
