Mt. Lion in Virginia
« on: February 11, 2011, 09:10:48 AM »
There has been much talk about the lion in Va. and other eastern states. Well I have seen them as have others . Well my son traps and called the game warden , I mean wildlife police (their new name) he was told if he finds one in a trap call the wildlife policeman and he will remove it from the trap . They drug it .
Heres the funny part , he was ask why in West Va its ok to shoot them but not here - ansewer in Va. they are Eastern or Fl. cats in West Va. they are western cats .  ???
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

Incedental shooting by hunters or trappers aren't going to wipe out lions.
they are so secretive that there are probably a lot more of them than we know.
besides, if Fla. lions are coming north, that means that the population is expanding big-time.

I saw a Mt. Lion in the Shenandoah National Forest while hiking the  AT back in 1980.

I'd say they've been there for some time.

Funny, many people report seeing them around here, but the TWRA still refuses to acknowledge they're here.

I'll trade ya 10,000 sea lions for a couple of mountain lions.  We've already got mountain lions, but we've also got way more sea lions than anyone needs.  And mountain lions don't eat up our salmon and sturgeon.

Over the years I've found big cat tracks within a few minutes of my house that measure well over 3 inches accross and heard them squall, but never seen one. POWDERMAN.  :o :o

We think one ate my Dad's cat three years ago just north of Austin TX. Track was way too big to be a bobcat. But as was said I think there are many more than people think. Plus individual cat's range is huge. Some estimate 20 sq miles in some areas.

I too have seen lots of them, at polling places during the elections!  :D ;D
Sorry, just couldn't resist that one.

Here in VA there are Mt. Lions, Wild Cats, Cougars what ever you want to call them.
Sightings have been reported from all over the state with a few caught on trail cams.
The VDGIF Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries has finally acknowledged this after viewing the pictures.
Just like the yotes they said were not around.
I have killed 2, my buddy has killed 2, I have seen 3 killed on the road, 1 just last week in front of our house and have seen many more.
We hear them almost every night.
They are here, just like the cats.
You may not see them but they are here!

ive seen them here in stanly co.n.c.
as powderman spoke of.. just half mile behind the house i came on a set of front tracks in the mud that were just too big to be lynx or bobcat..it would probably be against some law to kill one..
but im thinking the only way they ever get thereselves in trouble is when they take livestock..
one farmer set up on the remains of a carcas of a large calf that had been taken on his place..
everyone in that area knew why no more calves were killed.. that was of course long ago and the farmers long since passed on. of course..yall have a good day..
