ALL TC OWNERS - NEWS and a WARNING!
« on: February 13, 2011, 07:27:37 PM »
A very reliable source (old friend and hunting pard) called me tonight with news that will rock your world. It comes from a visit with a friend and TC employee at the SHOT Shot. Heysay still, but probably pretty reliable.

Supposedly TC is being sold to Remington, and it will happen very fast. S&W is keeping the barrel making and modern rifle potion of the business only and moving it to their own facility. S&W never owned the investment casting portion, it was a separte entity within TC, so apparently that is what Big Green is buying. The all but already gone TC traditional muzzleloader business may be going to Remington too, or just actioned off, but also something he is not sure of becasue he didn't think to ask. So they too may soon be gone. And the TC rep told him that with certainty if anybody needs parts for their Contender's, G2's, Encores or ML's, they better act fast, as in by the end of this month unless they want to try to deal with Remington for them later.

Big Green has pretty much destroyed the other holdings its bought the fast few years, so this may be the start of the end of the TC pistol/carbine AND traditional ML platforms.

Hopefully a press release will confirm a full disclosure soon, so only take this as it was offered until then please. I trust my firend, he trusts his at TC, but until its confirmed by S&W and/or Remington you may just want to hold your breath.

I have expected Contenders to go away since S&W first bought TC.  I hate it but it seems most of the marketing is focused on the Encore line.  With the popularity of the Contender I suspect the value of Contenders and G2 receivers to go up up up.  Get them while you can guy's cause soon I don't think they will be making anymore.  I have 4 might have to pick up a few more.

I would expect the value of T/C receivers to maybe go down.  First of all Remington is owned by some other company based in Europe if I remember correctly.  Secondly, the T/C "lifetime" warranty may no longer be any good.

Too bad.

I think I agree with this perspective...

If ya can't get parts or make them, you now have a nice throwing weapon...

Too bad is correct...

But on a 2nd thought, people might try to purchase as many as possible to use a parts?...

Hard to appreciate what S&W was really looking for in TC. If only keeping the barrel making and modern rifle business they could have bought a Douglas/Shilen/Pacnor/Kreiger/XXX for a lot less money to get barrel manufacturing and I don't even see TC as a big player in the rifle business. They were really just beginning to get it really going in the last five years - half of which S&W has owned them for.

This is likely a matter of a bunch of S&W managers, marketing types and accountants with money burning a hole in their pockets and no clearly defined strategy.

I don't see a big change in value of TC handguns. Don't like the idea of the warranty going away but I don't break 'em.

This isn't the first time I have read this. A good friend of mine also told me this a few weeks back. I guess at this point until we actually find out what is going on for sure my crystal ball is a little fuzzy as to the fate of T/C's.

There are a lot of Contender shooters in this country and they are loyal but in the grand scheme of things I am sure those of us that choose to shoot Contenders are a very small portion of all fireams used in this country and I am afraid that that is what the bean counters are going to be looking at.

This info has been floating around the net for some time now. What happens will happen! I guess we just have to wait and see! I have enough Contenders and G2's to last my life time but really hate that TC has went through this!

Who knows what S&W had in mind when they bought TC, but most users didn't consider it a plus.   A business decison at the time, but they change.

IMO the value of TC's will not go down.   The politics don't take away from what great platforms they that have well proved their merit over the last 44 years.   Most up to that old are still in use, still reliable and still safe to shoot.

Remy is owned by Cerberus Capital Management, a massive comglomerate who will count beans and buy and sell "companies" accordingly with no regard to employees or customers.   Anyone that thinks Remy is the company it once was in products or service is living in a vacuum IMO.

Mark, once again your comment suggests you live on a different planet than the rest of us.    ::)

I'm not buying the story at this time.  It doesn't seem to make much sense to me. S&W(who paid $100 million+ for T/C) has just started moving T/C to Springfield to have everything under one roof.  I might believe S&W could spin off a line or 2 to Remington but not the whole T/C line.

If it were true I see Contenders and Encore escalating in value, they have a niche popularity that no other guns are filling right now. As far as parts that is a non-issue because they are simple and seldom break and there are plenty for parts guns for the few repairs needed.

Remington ( and a bunch of other companies) are owned by Freedom Group. In charge is a guy named Bob Nardelli, who CNBC named one of the worst American CEO's of all time. He was in charge of Home Depot and Chrysler, nearly running those companies into the ground.
I'm afraid if Remington takes over T/C it'll be a downhill slide.

Doesn't surprise me. It never made sense to me that S&W should buy TC. They wanted to bring out bolt action rifles so that is supposedly the reason for the purchase. Seems a mighty expensive way to get into bolt action rifle manufacture and besides there is already a ton of competition for that market segment.

I doubt that Remington buying TC is a good thing for TC fans. Until they stop spending all their income on advertising and paying for hunts for magazine writers TC will never again be a profitable business.

I've not heard any glowing remarks from Marlin or H&R fans of how Remington is doing with those companies. I like Remington guns and actually prefer them but don't see these purchases as a beneficial thing to Remington or the companies being bought.

Remember that Cerburus owns Remington and is slowly buying up the entire US gun making industry. That is not good in my opinion and might be the means the super rich cabal has of ending guns in the US.

Guns as we now know them will eventually be a thing of the past.  I'm old enough that it won't happen in my lifetime, but it sure will in my children's and grandchildrens.  Be happy with what you have, because what you are going to be able to get won't hold a candle to it.

My concern is who are the people that control Cerburus and what is their agenda?
