Encore in .375 H&H ...Anyone own one?
« on: December 20, 2003, 05:46:22 AM »
I would appreciate hearing opinions about this caliber in an Encore .

Any first hand comments on shooting the other biggest calibers would be appreciated also.

Thanks,

Sandy F.

Thanks for the video link.

That was  375 H&H recoil?  It looked stout but not too bad.
Do you use that rifle for Moose and Bear?  I assume you're living in
Alberta ?

I'm wondering about wood stocks in this caliber.  If they crack under 2 Pyrodex pellets, I'm sure they won't hold up to the 375!
Looks like I'm going with synthetic.

Also curious as to what that nice deer in your profile scored.  Looks like a 150 to 160 class at least, if not more.

Thanks again for taking the time to help me out.

Yes that was with some pretty hot 220 grain handloads in the .375 H&H. Sandi has smeared one critter with it, a Qubec bull caribou. At 90 yards the results were predetermined and over very quickly!
We live in Alberta but hunt everywhere, she used her TC Omega on her bull moose the last 2 seasons.
All our TC's are synthetic, I have never had a wood one so I couldn't comment on the durability.
I'd love to claim more but the deer grossed 135 and netted 5 inches less than that. I live in the center of all those big whitetail and just never get the big one to walk by. One camp I was in this fall had a 164 gross 5x8 taken and another a 182 gross 7x8! I hung my Alberta whitetail tag on the Christmas tree this year.

guys, I have been shooting my 50cal with 150gr loads for 3 years.  No problems with walnut stock.  295 gr bullets.

I am thinking of going to the camo synthetic just for the the look.

Ditto on the stock Wishunt.  Maybe that explains why some used guns you look at appear that they were used as an axe to chop down a tree.

Omega that did,nt look to bad. Would you say the 375 kicked more than a 10 ga. 31/2" mag. single shot h&r shotgun? I am thinging about picking one up myself Thanks Duke45 [Al.]
