I was just looking around for a 410 shotgun. I dont need one, I have two 12s already, i just feel like I need it like a crack head needs a fix. Kinda sick.... Anyway I was just looking at the h&r, the rossi, yildiz or are the older omes like ithaca or mossberg bolts better quality? I would like to be able to take it small game hunting.

I have an old Winchester single shot .410. Tuff old gun. Shoots straight. Built like a piece of clock-work.
Also have a fairly new .410 O/U Mossberg. Looks great. Does not throw the best pattern. To me it lacks the quality of the older gun.

I would check out the H&R. Nice little gun for the price. I hunted with mine for 2 years before a friend of mine made me an offer for it i couldn't refuse.

Made in canada? Crazyness. Did they make a lot of guns up there? Im gonna have to start checking out the gun shows again cause they have a lot of used .410s there. That yildiz looks pretty slick, but kinda dainty.

Don't over look the Mossberg pump gun. Dang cute little thangs! A guy at our range had a 28 in the Rem 870 express so I reckon maybe Rem makes one in 410. Don't know for certain. I shot a buddy's 1100 Sporting in 410 one nite on the skeet field. The action working and the bang was the only reason I knew it went off. Absolutely no recoil.

Don't know how many were made, but they began making them in 1964.

I have a remington 870 pump in 410. It was worn and beaten when I got it. I fixed the broken stock but left it worn, gives it some character. It has proven to be a very handy small game getter. I have also had a mosberg bolt 410. It had a 2 shot magazine and a poly choke. Between the two the remington points and patterns better.

Hi Pastor: What brand of Double are you talking about here?
I've got a little ole Mossberg .410 O/U Silver Reserve. It's kinda delicate. Not built for rugged use, so I don't take it out near as often as that Winchester Single.

My personal choice is the Browning Citori White Lightning. I've had .410 pump guns by both Remington and Mossberg and Remington 1100s so chambered as well. I've had a SxS double or two I seem to recall also. Way back in my competition skeet shooting days I used Remington 870s in all four gauges for competition and didn't feel handicapped but finally got tired of picking up hulls and went to an O/U. Nothing fits me any better than the Citori White Lightning guns.

For several years I owned and shot them in .410, 28 and 20 gauge. Kind of a matter of priorities. I was doing a LOT of skeet shooting back then so that's where my money went. I sure miss the 28 and 20 but my shoulder just isn't up to even that level of recoil. My .410 has a Pachmayr Decelerator pad and I shoot with a shooting vest with pad also. Now my shoulder doesn't hurt after I shoot however my back has been hurting me so bad I've not made it to the range this year.

I love those small gauge White Lightning guns. I had a 12 gauge as well but the recoil of a 12 had already gotten to be too much for me before I bought it.

That would have been a joy to get to do that. No doubt you had some good times with that.

Boy ! I know what you mean about the 'recoil'. I can't handle it anymore either. I'll go out with my son and his buddies and watch them shoot. They offer to let me shoot their big guns, but I just grin and say " no thanks; I'm enjoying just watching yu'all. "

I like my doubles SxS. I own 2 in 410. A stevens & a leFever.

To me the SxS just point beter. But I don't shoot competion, just hunt.

Is that Stevens a Model 311?

M311's 'for SALE' are a very rare item! Folks who own them in .410's love the heck ouuta them!

M311's are also well regarded in 20 and 12 gagg too,
esp for being such a fugly yet effective SXS.

Now Couger and pastorp those old American made SxS's were some good shootin guns, and inexpensive too. Back in the 1940's, Savage sold this old FoxB 20ga. for $25 -$26. This one is a 1975 model. Picked it up at a gun show a few yrs back for $425.

Good for you FourBee, that's a decent price! My next gun after a first shotgun (M370 Tinnchester .410er), was a Savage Fox Model-B 20gauge. for the bucks was a fairly good gun.

I have a Mossberg .410 pump gun. It weighs about five pounds and shoots a nice pattern. An easy gun to carry, it's a small game hunter's dream come true.

Yep.
Nothing points like a SXS.
I have a little Stoeger .410 coach gun, hammerless. It's quite too short for me but a handy piece nevertheless.

I had been looking for a good quality used .410 for a long time. Everything I found was either beat to heck or out of my price range but then I came across this 99% Savage model 30c at an Austin gun show back in January. It is almost in new condition except for two or three tiny scratches, not bad for a gun that has a good ten years on me.

(they stopped making them in the late 70's) I paid $250 out the door.
