Iran moving warships
« on: February 16, 2011, 10:04:48 AM »
Well, just heard that Iran is moving warships to Syria. Thru the Suez canal. Isreal considers this a provication. What with Egypt in turmoil,Jordan,Syria, and a couple others, looks like it's going to get messy. I pray not, but, this very well could be the spark that lights the tinder box. gypsyman

Big Deal  - Two warships.

This is just a bunch of chest Thumping on both sides.

Iran Just to be a thorn , and Israel to try and muster international alliances.
Sometimes Israel reminds me of  chicken little "the sky is falling" the 'sky is falling' !!!!!

RELAX
Nothing is going to happen.

 -
"The Suez Canal does not stop any commercial ships from passing as long as we are not in a state of war," said Ahmed El Manakhly, a member of Egypt's Suez Canal board. "As long as they (Iranians) are not conducting some sort of belligerent operation I think they would have a right to go through the canal like any other country," said James Kraska, professor of international law at the U.S. Naval War College.

U.S. Senator Mark Kirk, a former navy officer, said Iranian warships transiting the Suez Canal would be legal and also provocative, but "this does not pose a threat to Israel. They could sink these vessels in a long hour." But this did show the increased reach of the Iranian navy, Kirk added.

Christian Le Miere of the International Institute for Strategic Studies said Iranian commercial ships regularly used Suez but he was not aware of the Iranian navy ever doing so."That said, it's hard to see this as a credible threat to anyone. Two warships don't make a flotilla," Le Miere said.

Iran has accomplished their desired effect in doing so.
.

We move warships all over the place all the time, build and sell them too. What was the desired effect Iran was accomplishing...?

..TM7
.
And all of our warships move according to a plan. They don't just haphazardly show up in key positions accidentally at opportune moments. Neither do Iranian ships.

This conversation thread is an example of one of the desired effects.

I am not anti Israel , but what Israel is really doing is  just Seeding and feeling out the international  support by throwing a preemptive Temper Tantrum and wanting other Nations to condemn the movement of the Ships. "Look at me" ," look at me"  "oh woe is US".

Ridiculous -  there is no threat
Iran has accomplished their desired effect in doing so.

Exactly  -  Now that they both have gained this weeks required global headlines , The ME can now go back to their regularly scheduled Bickering.

In the real world scheme of things, 2 iranian war ships are no threat. By the time the smoke cleared from the first solvo they would be on the bottom of the sea. They know that and the world knows that.
I think that Israel would like to see one of their cities shelled by a war ship. That would get their cheering section from around the world in a frenzy and you would hear. Unleash the hounds.
I would not be supprised if at sometime, someone dont scuttle a few ships in the suez. That would muddle up the commerse in the area for a few weeks.

Chicken Little , Rattlesnake , that's fine whatever analogy you want to use works for me as well.

The point I was making is:
1.) Nothing was going to happen
2.) Hello World , Both of US Iran and Israel we feel  the need to be the international center of attention again this week
3.)Just another day of save the 'Drama for your Mama" in the ME.

scootrd, I certainly hope your right. But with everything that's going on in the ME right now, saber rattling can jump to a sword fight real quick. Don't know how old you are, but when Egypt and Isreal had their little run in in '68, it got real serious, real quick.
And with the nut jobs that are running some of/most of, the country's over there now, I can garauntee you, Isreal isn't going to take a sucker punch. Every country around it, has vowed to destroy it, their not going to sit back. gypsyman

America's enemies have learned one thing very clearly about us (and we've taught them via our media), we have the collective attention span of a gnat. We are easily distracted by Bright Shiny Objects (BSO) like a cat with a laser. Its become a doctrinal understanding of how to manipulate the Western mind; its in the playbook, literally. Written in Persian, Arabic, Mandarin, Korean, Russian ... even Hebrew and English. We're a solitaire culture in a chess world.

So sometimes you move a piece on the board just to see who's paying attention and what they say about it. And that's the only reason.

For an uber warrior nation, we've got some problems ... our maintenance and repair ability is up there with the USSR in the late 80's when they were using steel straps and crimping tools to hold buildings together. Everyday we're on the CRA, there's another ship, plane, or other means of war that didn't get maintained or repaired. This year's bright idea by the pointy heads in the beltway was to slash funding equally across the board, without any regard for fixed costs. My installation was underfunded $2 million for power ... and we're not alone. We'll be waging that uber war by candlelight here soon. Also with the most clinically depressed troops in history, with the highest usage of behavioral medication, and the least stable family structures. Motivation levels in many sectors are up there with the draftees of Vietnam days. The more thoughtful ones are wondering if we're really committed to defense, why doesn't our NMS reflect the basic wisdom of the simplest field manual?

TPTB may have to find themselves a new Champion.

In short Iran would be turned to glass if Israel wanted to. Just cut to the chase. Iran knows this and won't challenge this. End of story. The LAST thing Iran wants is the US not holding the reigns of Israel. If they act act on their own then stock up on MRE's......

BTW,,,if the DoD and GA would track down some of that $2.3 trillion funds that Rummie mentioned missing/unaccounted for on Sept. 10, 2001; and retrieve it...that would go along way to solving alot of budget crunches.

It's not lost... it was never lost ... I'm not a big conspiracy theory nut,  but,  I do firmly believe it was just diverted.  - JMHO

But it is interesting to read how Rummie is trying to re-write history. I will probably pick up his book , I bet its a great FICTIONAL Read !!

Can they sail around and enter via Gilbralta..??

..TM7
.
"Can" they, as in legally? Sure. That's unrestricted waters, as long as they don't violate the 3 mile limit with anyone that doesn't like them, they're good to go. "Will" they? Probably not. That's a heck of a sail, and its not really in Iran's naval capacity or strategy to go that far. They're regionally focused with their naval power.
