Sighting in 1894C

I topped my new 1894C with a Tasco 4x32 (Japanese).  I currently have it zeroed @ 100 yards, but thought I'd get some opinions.  I plan to use it as an all around woods gun for vermin and whitetails.  Shots would range from 25 -125 yards.  I am shooting handloads using Hornady 158gr XTP over 15gr H110 and a CCI 550 primer.

I have that same weapon and I still have the OEM sights on it.  Where I hunt the terrain is so thickly wooded and hilly a guy would be very hard pressed to get a 50 yard shot. There's just too much stuff in the way.
I don't know where you hunt, but I'd say try to estimate what your typical shot will be and sight for that. You mention wanting to use it in the woods, so you may not be able to see 100 yards either.

Leave it zeroed at 100yds.  Then take two additional targets, put one at 50 yds, and the other at 75 yds.  If you can have them in line with the 100 yd target.  Now shoot thru all 3 targets.  You'll probably find that you're in real good shape.  If you can hold a 2 inch group at 100, your total group size is probably not going to exceed 3-4 inch for all 3 targets.  Which is  absolutely "killer dead" especially with how the 357 works at those distances. :D

Why not use a good tool. www.jbmballistics.com will help. Use the library to select your bullet. Enter your mv. You can ignore all the windage.  You should look at ''point blank range'', a distance at which the bullet rises or falls no farther than + or - 3'' relative to line of sight.  If you know this you'll be better prepared for the next range trip.

I have settled in on a 60 yard zero.  This seems to provide the best for 25 - 75 yard shots with a solid hold.  Past that I need to hold over a bit.

After all that... I decided to pull the scope off and stick with my gut.  Lever guns don't get scoped

I had to work too hard to get a good cheek mold and see thru the scope.  Didn't feel right.  It shoots damn good with irons anyway.
