Forestclimber, that's not a bad idea. Lets take it a step further. How about we get all the welfare and food stamp leaches to start working for their govt. benifits. I'll bet a large percent are healthy enough to patch roads and work public jobs. Oh, I forgot, they wouldn't pay union dues would they. Back to the drawing board. gypsyman

Why don't they just fire all the public employees and teachers.  Let them get jobs in a business that pays for itself.  Everybody can take care of their own roads in front of their houses and home school their kids.

May not be a bad idea, as long as the public get back the tax money tey have paid in !
That's the way it used to be done 150 years ago and the world survived.  Don't forget, many are already homeschooling their kids...and STILL paying ridiculous school taxes.. ;) :D

I think we should clarify a mistake being perpetrated here;  some are confusing Libertarian with Conservative...that is a common mistake; but still a mistake !
Since Libertarians cannot be classified as either liberal or conservative, all those groups Scoot listed above in #905 can be discounted as invalid atributions.

Scoot says;
"You have no argument from me , I have said all along corruption resides on both sides. You guys on this thread  are the ones that labeled me a Liberal parasite just cause I disagree with corp America funding a takeover of our govt. and our political process through the use their puppet politicians like Walker, and disagree on the single point of stripping collective bargaining away from Labor. I just want us all to be honest on whats really going on and lets not hide behind the BS of it's all about balancing budgets. It's about the Reps supporting their corporate base and quid pro Quo's. "

You start the statement, pretending to be "fair and balanced"..then you complain because someone has labeled you a "liberal".

Ironically, we have not heard you at any time complain specifically about a billionaire puppeteer named Soros... or how he and the unions just about 2 years ago, funded the takeover of our govt, by a radical regime, who promised to "transform" our nation (into a Marxist state..IMO)..
So that leaves one with the natural conclusion..you are a left-winger.. ;) :D

Wonder if TM7 was so anti-business when he owned his business... Wonder if it was ok for him to make a profit, and to get tax breaks... Or when it was sold, and he made a comfortable amount of money, capital gains too low???

Funny how retired people tend to want the government to take from business and taxpayers and distribute to the slackers in the name of fairness.  Otherwise known as socialism.

Easier to justify when your taken out of the equation I guess.

There's a guy around here who rants and raves about the evils of socialism seemingly every day.  Then one day the subject came around to social security and disability.  Seems he benefits greatly from both and was really opposed to limiting those programs...   Hmm...

Wonder what kind of taxes the big unions pay...beyond their personal wages ?  Anybody got those figures ?  I surely would not expect they were tax exempt, since the NEA top lawyer was bragging about the millions and millions of $$$$ that flow through BIG UNION offices..  And that's only one union among many!

I wonder if Florida's Democrat senators are going to bolt for the Cuban paradise for a few weeks, now that Rick Scott has signed a bill that catches up on the slacker teachers and rewards the effective ones..just as is done in private industry..

TM, If all these corporations are paying no tax as you say, then why are so many of them setting up operations in lower tax countries? I guess they are determined to destroy their bottom line ::)

The reality is there is a mix of issues going here. It is not as simple as they are paying no tax. They are paying tax, it’s just that the US has made is so unreasonable for them to operate here, they have off-shored to survive. If you’re a global company and you have sales in Asia for product produced in Asia of course you’re not going to pay much US tax. Same scenario plays itself out in many forms. Another scenario is a company that fails to produce a profit. If you have no profit, you can't additionally pay tax on nothing! That’s like levying a income tax on some who has no job! So there are many scenarios that will result in zero federal tax or zero state tax or both. Of course any company that operates and sells product here and shows a profit will pay tax. In any case, if you produce a product, you purchased components. The suppliers you purchased from hopefully earned a profit on US soil and they will pay tax. Their employees earn and income and pay tax. Ect, ect, ect.

Your over simplifying the issue.

no that just leaves me trying to stay on topic Regarding what the Dems bailed ship. Collective bargaining. and the reason for it's elimination is not Budget balancing. It's 2012 elections. But I guess if folks say a lie long enough some will believe.

Just like the BS lies  -  117 million tax breaks for Wisconsin Corps does not increase their deficit and revenue loss that created this walker emergency to begin with that he is now trying to budget Balance on the backs of  the common worker once again to curry favor from his corp elite base.

How much did the state of Wiscosnin have to borrow to inject money into the unfunded shortfall in the state worker union pension plan?

How much in increases did the state workers get over the past 5 years and how has the budget deficit suffered during same period?

How much money was spent on salaries for the increasing number of employee's for the state over this same period?

How many jobs are projected to come to Wisconsin because of the tax reduction in the private sector?

How many jobs are projected to come to Wisconsin because of the tax reduction in the private sector?

If you recall walker did this before earlier in his career and it actually cost Wisconsin monies, saved 0 dollars and created ZERO Jobs for Wisconsin.

and Speaking of Zero  -  what's less than paying Zero in Corp Taxes  How much more of a break do these Corps need -

Once again , in 2010 GE paid zero dollars in Taxes. "Profits of $14.2 billion, and said $5.1 billion of the total came from its operations in the United States. Its American tax bill? None. In fact, G.E. claimed a tax benefit of $3.2 billion.

How many U.S Jobs did GE create in the U.S?  - None
As a matter of fact they were the Recipient of 14 Stimulus Grants, $24.9 Million, and laid off 18,000 workers.

The Walker's of the world can't pee on my shoe and tell me it's raining -  Corps want the breaks and re-invest nothing into America or American workforce,  -  Point made.

The Collective Bargaining law was printed yesterday by the Legislative Reference Bureau, by law is starts today even though the supreme court will hear it.  Another small win for the taxpayers of Wisconsin!

Big election coming up for a supreme court seat in Wisconsin to keep the conservative hold on the court.  Prosser is being challenged by a liberal activist lawyer, Kloppenburg, who has never been a judge, but now feels she is qualified to be a supreme court justice...

TM7, you never answered why Wisconsin needs to borrow 1.56 billion if we're so flush with cash..

And it keeps heating up in Wisconsin surrounding  Collective Bargaining. Did Cronan hit a little too close too Home in his op ed piece?

William Cronon , a University of Wisconsin Professor published an Op ed piece in The New York Times alleging that the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), which tries to engineer right-wing policies in state legislatures, is behind the Wisconsin anti-union push. Shortly after the Article was published, University of Wisconsin’s attorneys received a request from the Wisconsin GOP, Under the state open records law, for copies of Cronon’s emails sent from his state account at the university. The Wisconsin GOP asked for Cronon-authored personal emails that contain a range of union-related keywords, such as “AFSCME,” “collective bargaining,” “recall,” etc.

The Wisconsin GOP is apparently using the state’s open records law to request personal emails of a university professor who criticized Walker and Republicans.

Cronan's Response -
“They’re trying to intimidate me. Intimidating people from asking legitimate questions is a McCarthyite tactic.”
Cronon says the Wisconsin GOP will not find evidence of what they’re looking for. “It’s not there,” he says.

Now, 'personal' is up for some reasonable debate here. This is his university email. And he's a Professor at the University of Wisconsin, the state university. So he's a state employee. Still, he's not an elected official or someone doing public business in the sense you'd ordinarily understand the term. Nor are they looking at anything tied to the administration of the University, which is legitimately a public matter. In the ordinary sense we tend to understand the word it's his personal email. And the range of requested documents leave no doubt about what they're after.

Here's the request -
From: Stephan Thompson [mailto:SThompson@wisgop.org]
Sent: Thursday, March 17, 2011 2:37 PM
To: Dowling, John
Subject: Open Records Request

Dear Mr. Dowling,

Under Wisconsin open records law, we are requesting copies of the following items:

Copies of all emails into and out of Prof. William Cronon's state email account from January 1, 2011 to present which reference any of the following terms: Republican, Scott Walker, recall, collective bargaining, AFSCME, WEAC, rally, union, Alberta Darling, Randy Hopper, Dan Kapanke, Rob Cowles, Scott Fitzgerald, Sheila Harsdorf, Luther Olsen, Glenn Grothman, Mary Lazich, Jeff Fitzgerald, Marty Beil, or Mary Bell.

We are making this request under Chapter 19.32 of the Wisconsin state statutes, through the Open Records law. Specifically, we would like to cite the following section of Wis. Stat. 19.32 (2) that defines a public record as "anything recorded or preserved that has been created or is being kept by the agency. This includes tapes, films, charts, photographs, computer printouts, etc."

Thank you for your prompt attention, and please make us aware of any costs in advance of preparation of this request.

Sincerely,

Stephan Thompson

Scoot,

And what is the matter with that??? He is a State employee!  Open records apply to him, he is not immune just because he is a liberal prof.  Walker had to turn over his emails and did it willingly without comment.  It will be interesting when the emails come out, the only reason to bark about it is if he has something to hide.

The donkey party askes for this kind of stuff all the time, and now that the ball is in the other court they cry foul... What a bunch of loser's...

Seems like I read in the paper yesterday that some conservative prosecutor from Indiana had to resign after his email to Walker was made public where he suggested that Walker fake an attack by a "liberal" to hurt their credibility.

Recall update  -

River Falls police were asked to track down and find a suspect who had made off with a batch of Sen. Sheila Harsdorf recall petition signatures late Sunday afternoon. The alleged theft occurred on the sidewalk near EconoFoods. The male suspect pretended he wanted to sign the petition to recall Harsdorf but instead swiped the forms with signatures and drove off.

The man drove back in five minutes and tossed the petition toward the group of volunteers. Either it was a poor throw or they couldn’t catch. The paperwork landed on wet pavement. With a vehicular and suspect description, an officer traced the man to his home near the River Falls Area Hospital. The man seemed indignant that a police officer was at his door and denied being near EconoFoods.

Then he said he couldn’t be accused of stealing the petition signatures because he returned them.

As of March 14th -
The Dems have collected over 45 percent of the signatures necessary to hold recall elections for eight GOP state senators with roughly three-fourths of the allotted time remaining.

Buckskin and everyone I know that voted for him in Milwaukee, now wants him gone.

In the 18th (Oshkosh, Fond du Lac and surroundings), Republican incumbent Randy Hopper faces a 44-49 deficit against a generic Democrat. Polling by SurveyUSA last week paints an even direr picture for Hopper — trailing 43-54.
Dan Kapanke faces a 55-41 deficit against a Democratic challenger. President Obama won the district 61-38.
In the 14th (central Wisconsin, Marquette), Republican Luther Olsen will be fighting for his political life, trailing a generic Democrat 49-47. Obama won the district 52-47.
In two more districts, Republicans lead narrowly, but are under 50 percent: In the 10th (St. Croix, northwestern Wisconsin), Sheila Harsdorf holds a 48-44 lead, while in the 2nd (northeastern Wisconsin, outside Green Bay), Rob Cowles holds a mere 45-43 lead. Obama won both districts narrowly.

Finally, Democrats are within striking range in the 8th (Milwaukee’s northern suburbs), where incumbent Republican Alberta Darling holds a single-digit lead — 52-44.

Will be interesting to see if Alberta Darling holds on since she only won her last race by only 1,007 votes.

They only need three seats ... as I said it's heating up. Great fun to watch.

scootrd , I was raised in a coal mining camp in Alabama. In my dad’s house-hold in the pecking order, John L. Lewis. founder of the United Mine Workers Of America was one notch below Jesus Christ! But before his death he saw what had become of the union movement and would have none of it!

And a large portion of my family grew up in Wyoming County, West Virginia, and give thanks the UMWA everyday.

Well we agree on one thing  - there are those that don't have a clue about what they speak.
What I cant figure out though is why they continue to comment on topics they obviously know nothing about and the only thing they seem to come up with is using the word parasite every other sentence and contribute nothing intellectually to the topic being discussed.

I stand with Labor everytime
