dont know the major differnces but i have a freind that is a browning bolt nut and ive have to say both his abolts and xbolts are real shooters. Personaly i prefer the looks of the abolt. the xbolt looks to star warish to me.

You were on about this before . Too bad you didn't live in Central Ontairo Canada , for then you have your pick of slightly used  browning X bolts off the used gun rack  They appear to be nice guns, but I wonder about the reasons they are constantly being turned back in .
I like the idea of the clip over the box on a hindge the A bolt has . Then too , don't think too much of having less metal on the top of the reciever , and the mounting now needing four bolts to hold a mount secure instead of two per mount .
I wonder if a winchester now would be the better gun . they are known to shoot, never hear a negative comment and I never every seen one turned back in .
I sold the browning I bought last summer and bought another tikka .They are good right out of the box . Then too are the Marlin X brand from all the reports  on line .

I think you will be happy with the X-Bolt.  IMO the X-Bolt has an excellent user adjustable trigger(with bolt unlock), great recoil pad, and a very smooth feeding magazine.  It feels better in my hands than the A-Bolts do.  Mine is the Hunter model in 270 Winchester with a Zeiss Conquest mounted in DNZ Game Reaper mounts.

I own 2 A-bolt's and one X-bolt. If I want any more it will be the X-bolt.

No Harry I just got the standard x bolt in .243. Since my o6 beat me up so bad last time I shot it I thought I would go with a little less recoil. Then I remembered all the game I killed with a .243 in my early years and figured it would be fine.

Well I am following your lead Country Boy. I had two rifles in 06, so let the A bolt go and in return getting a Tikka T3 in 6.5x55 .

I have a tikka in 338 F and like the rifle's as you like your Brownings . The 6.5  T3 are no longer being imported to this side of the pond , so when I had the chance I couldn't resist trading for  the gun .
The 6.5 's shoot flat , pentrate deep and are a pussy to one's shoulder . Had this chambering in a Husquaria model 38 .
This will be the range gun, as well as a small calipier for yotes, deer /bear and mabe the odd moose .

I got my rifle today, I ordered an xbolt hunter in .243but when we opened the box it was an xbolt medallion. He told me it was the best looking rifle he had seen in 20 yrs and said no extra charge. Its so pretty I'm afraid to take it out of the box !He also gave me a sling, 4 different brands of ammo and rings and bases for the rifle.

  Can"t believe he did all that ! I* guess even a blind hog finds an acorn once in a while. Now I'm going to buy a 30-30 to hunt with the x bolt is just too nice to hunt with.

Years ago I got a nice Sako . Problem was the gun was too pretty to take to the bush,and I always was more concerned about putting a mark on it instead of enjoying the hunt .
So after a few years I did sell it .

So maybe you should thank the man for this thoughts , but you would rather have had the plain hunter so you  would not feel so bad about putting an honest  mark on it .

  Really interested to hear how the x-Bolt shoots. I've got a buddy that has moved to NE, that asked me what I thought about an X-Bolt as he wants to pick one up and start hunting again. I think he regrets selling his .270 three years ago. My father in-law used to have an A-Bolt and spoke highly of it.

I have a X-Bolt Hunter in 270 Winchester topped with a Zeiss Conquest.  The rifle has a great trigger and as long as I let the barrel cool between shots it easily shoots under 1 MOA.
