Marlin 1895 45-70
« on: February 18, 2011, 10:46:41 AM »
I took delivery on a new Marlin 1895 in 45-70 last evening.  I ordered it through an on line dealer on Guns America.  I couldn't find anything locally new or used except for the guide gun and I didn't want that short barrel.  Took it out of at my FFL while he was doing the necessary paperwork and the action only moved about 3/4" and jammed up.  The trigger doesn't work and the hammer won't drop.  Needless to say I am not a happy camper. >:(  I called Marlin this AM and they are sending a shipping label and a box to send it back but this thing is brand spanking new.  I like to buy American as much as I can whenever I can but it's this kind of stuff that drives people to consider alternatives.  Hopefully they will redeem themselves. :-\
Why is there never enough time to do it right but there is always enough time to do it again?

Don't feel to bad, I bought two marlins last week, a STBL and a stainless guide gun
I feel fortunate that the STBL was ok while the guide gun would never have been purchased if I had the rifle in hand before paying for it. That seems to be a minus for buying on the net,but as you know, the net is the only way to find a rifle you want . Marlin says they will make it right and have sent a shipping label. They obviously have children as QC people, but maybe not, kids would probably notice the glaring defects that the QC people at Marlin miss. The prices continue to go up as quality goes down. I have had many older marlins and have never seen anything like the stuff that is coming out of their production facilities now--it's sad--we'll see if remington or the parent holding company cares

They stepped up and took care of a feeding problem in my 1894 44.
The only way they know what the problem with a product is to tell
them. I did that and they did a great job. I would have preferred to
not have a problem but the measure of a companies integrity is in
how willing they are to make it right.

I agree.  We can use the rational that anyone can make a mistake, even though it never should have left the factory.  I hope that they do right by me.  I have an H&R Handi in 35 Whelen that failed to fire.  It took them awhile but they did fix the problem.  since big green owns both H&R and Marlin I hope my experience is the same with the lever gun.  I want to use this for Black bear in the fall so I am going to be positive here and say that there is plenty of time to sort things out.   :-\

When you get that 1895 back you will have a ball! It is great fun
