How many reloads should I expect out of one 45 long colt case

I have never messed with straight wall cases but I might want a 45 long colt! If I buy 100 cases can I expect 5 reloads out of each pieces of brass! With moderate loads! Any other straight walled case advise would be good just in case I buy a different straight walled caliber! Thanks Dale

I have some from 1979 that have well over 40 loads on them and still going strong , the key is to work the brass as little as possable , don't over flare the case mouth and keep the loads in the mod. range .

If I need more power than the standard 45 colt load , I grab a 454 so the colt brass lasts almost frorever .  ;)

I have a bunch of .44 mag cases I've been using for around 30 years. I'd say they have been loaded at least 50-100 times each. I don't sort them so some get fired again before others. They still work fine.

Loaded to safe pressure levels your cases should last for 50 loadings. You'll no doubt have a few crap out along the way but not all that many.

As Stimpy and Greybeard said I have  straight wall pistol brass from the 70s still going strong, I don’t get as much use out of the nickel-plated stuff, and hot loads will kill brass faster than anything else.

As others have stated, use the least amount of flare necessary to start a bullet and don't buy nickle plated brass.

I have not had time to shoot 45's that much, but 38's and 44's , and straight walled rifle cases, I do NOT load hot, and I expect 30 or so out of pistol, and 15-20 out of the rifle. You could probably trim the cases and extend even that.

Most of my 45 colt last for many loadings with normal loads.

I have loaded them hot (for T/C and Ruger only) and had them split on the second round.

I now appreciate the 45 colt for what it is and only load to normal old time factory loads.

like was said it depends on how hot you load. Ive had them go over 20 times but loaded hot ive had them peter out in 5 firings. One other thing to keep in mind is that when you use brass thats been fired a number of times it gets tired. Even before you get splits you loose neck tension. I rotate my brass and use brass thats been fired over 5 times just for loads for rolling beer cans. For accuracy work i use newer brass.

I use them with black powder and haven't worn one out yet in who knows how many years. At least 30.
