You guys have helped me in the past when I start loading for a new gun, hope you can give me a little insight on this one.  I've got a 14" 309JDJ barrel for my Contender that should be here in a couple of days.  I mainly need info on what powder you folks have found to work the best, I expect the majority of my bullets will me 165-168gr, may try some 150's too.  My Hornady#7 manual gives data for about 10 different powders, of which I have one on hand, RL15.  But I know that just because I have it, doesn't mean it's the best one to use.  Thanks in advance for your input.

Tried the link and it is invalid- just go to Google and get it.
There are enough loadings there to keep you busy for a dozen years trying them all.lol

Gary, thanks.  I have googled for loads, and came up with that site.  But where it list the bullet/powder then you have to 'click here' for the full data,,,and that you have to pay $30 bucks for.

I would like to say, that I'm not really asking for anyones pet load.  I just want to know what powders you guys have found to work best.  I know some may not burn as clean, some may produce a huge fireball, etc.  I know I will have to tweak out my own load, just curious what others have discovered works best for them.  Again, thanks.

I don't have a 309 JDJ but I have always found that using a powder that will come close to 100% load density and get me the velocity I desire usually is the most accurate.

Get you some 125 Nosler ballistic tips and give them a try on average size Whitetail deer. I shoot them in my 14" Contender 30-30AI at 2670 fps average velocity. They hammer deer and EXIT even as close as 45 yards through both shoulders. Recoil is much lighter than 150s also.

Thanks for the ideas.  Good tip on the load density, that's part of what I was looking for on powder suggestions.  As far as the bullet, I was just saying 150s and 168s because that's what I have on hand for my 308 rifles, but the 125-130 would be more pleasant in a handgun.
