Winchester model 71 disassembly?
« on: December 21, 2003, 03:07:56 AM »
Does anyone know the procedure for removing the breech bolt of a model 71 Winchester? I want to install a bolt peep sight and the breech bolt and firing pin have to be removed before the elevator screw nut can be installed in the recess above the firing pin. Thank you!
You mean to say there are rifles other than old Winchester leverguns ?

Win 71 : It requires pretty much full disassemby of the rifle to remove the bolt. I wouldn't do it without a reference at hand as it is complex and you're liable to end up with a cardboard box full of parts. The NRA published a book titled The NRA Guidebook to Shoulder Arms , Firearms Assembly 1 which includes the M-71. My copy was published in 1972 but they may have done additional printings. Perhaps a local library will have one. If you can't find one get back to me and I'll type out the instructions for you (no way of scanning) but it would be most helpful if you can find a picture with the parts breakdown and parts names to refer to while following the instructions. Luck

Win71,
The Numrich Arms catalog has a schemetic drawing of the Winchester 71.
It will give you a good idea of the parts, and where they fit.
The only book that I have that provides instruction is the one that you already know about.
