Whitetails Unlimited @ local Humane Society
« on: February 21, 2011, 05:47:43 AM »
On the way to work Saturday, I saw on their billboard that the Hancock County chapter of the Humane Society was hosting Whitetails Unlimited!  what in the world (it changed my 3 letter word)!  Seems like an irony to me, and left me a little, uh, unsettled.  No love lost here for the Humane Society!

The Humane Society of The United States(HSUS) is the anti hunting group. Your local humane societies may not be affiliated with HSUS and may have a quite different position on hunting than HSUS.

This is very true - the HSUS is commonly mistaken for the Humane Society that looks out for puppies and kitties, but is really a deep-pocketed organization that is more concerned with the large animal species.  They were recently in the drive-by media "news" for being in financial trouble, and in this particular story they used less than .10 of every dollar they receive for actual "animal rights" work.  As a dairy farmer I do not care for them or their cause.  Carrie Underwood sided with them last year on an "anti-fur" campaign.  Very disappointing.  Drink Milk - it's the real thing.

Same here in Columbiana County.  Our local humane society makes it clear they are not HSUS.  They even came to our coyote seminar.  The local group actually does humane things to help animals instead of trying to end all hunting & fishing.

The HSUS was smart in choosing their name to make it sound like they actually are helping puppies & kitties.  I think there was once a group that used a name close enough to the American Cancer Society to rip off money that could actually go a good cause.
