encore scope mounting
« on: February 21, 2011, 04:03:05 PM »
I am expecting my 1st encore barrel tomorrow.  Its a 22-250 T/C to replace the muzzleloader barrel that it came with.  I am looking for a quality cost effective mount/rings for a 1" tube scope. I am considering the dednuzt, but don't know much about them.  For $46.99 seems to be close to the same cost as a $16 weaver style base + $30 rings.  What do you seasoned encore guys like? Any input would be appreciated.

For Encore rifle barrels, I use Warne steel Weaver style bases and then use Warne quick detach rings.  If you use their bases on your Contender rifle barrels, Encore rifle barrels, Encore muzzleloader barrels and Encore 20 gauge shotgun barrels, you can then move your scope(s) around when you switch barrels.  Thus, you only need one or two good scopes and have money to buy even more barrels.

If you buy Warne stuff you'll never regret it.  Right now I have three Encore barrels, one Contender barrel, and one Savage rifle all wearing Warne Maxima bases and rings.  The Encore muzzleloader barrel is the only one that has the QD rings.  It has open sights and I sight in opens for 50 yards and the scope for 100.  If the scope fails I can pull it off and still hunt.  The other barrels don't have sights, but I see the logic in swapping scopes between barrels too.

Bases will run you about $30 to $35 and rings $25 to $30.  A bit more if you go with QD rings.  Whichever way you go, they're worth every penny.
