Piracy in INTERNATIONAL waters IS our concern. How much money does it take to erase a couple of small harbors? Chasing? I agree with you there. the problem should be eliminated at the source. I also agree that we should not become entangled in foreign affairs. The victims as it were, were NOT foreigners. Nerve gas applied in the regions of the harbors should make the area safe for at least a generation.

Since defending America and Americans must be the highest priority of our government, the money issue is moot. Or should I say, this is how things should be? With a halfrican for a leader, it's questionable if anything resembling finality will actually be done.

My main point is that it isn't worth our worrying about what becomes of the so-called innocent civilians that we should risk a single American troop on that piece of crap country. We should indeed be very precise with any retaliation. The nuke must be aimed well enough to hit the exact center of where the pirates reside.

Nix the federal board of education ( let states have it ) , nix NPR , Get out of the loan business , stop bailing out auto makers etc and cut unnessary wealfare , health care and unemployment . Use money to battle pirates etc.

That would be the thing to do other than they can't arm merchant ships . Would you want every ship from anywhere in the world sailing into American ports armed ?

As for federal police that might work . Let states be states . The concept of farmers in another state paying taxes to provide money for drug enforcement in a big city they will never visit seems odd.

Please let me know if I am incorrect but I thought it was against international maritime laws for none military vessels to be armed. If that is the case how can that be changed and who enforces it? In most cases it appears that the pirates are armed with AKs and maybe a rocket launcher, that should not take that much armament to defend against. A few 20mm gatlings and some LAWS would go a long ways toward taking the fun out of being a pirate.

It had to do with military ships attacking non military or armed ships . If a ship was armed it was a target .

Could "trolling" be done? For example take a yacht crewed by navy seals and do the same with some other boats/ships. It would not cost all that much and it would seem that it might give the pirates pause if they can never be sure that the next one will be easy pickings or to be met by overwhelming and accurate fire.

This is a serious situation - but to add some levity to the topic - this would be the ultimate big game hunt. You get a 'guide', you get your choice of LAW, Ak47, flame thrower, etc.. You go out in a armored boat that appears to be a tycoons 1.2MUS yacht, bait in the pirates, and you bag'em with 'no limit'. That may sound a trifle hard core, but I don't feel any empathy for these criminals.

I used to work for the US bank that originally put in cell service in Somalia. I shared an office with the manager of the project. The plan was to modernize the infrastructure in the country and develop the country for its resources. It was easier to put in cell service than land lines. Who modernized it, I don't know, but it was not a bunch of pirates.

I read today that the godless scum have captured a Danish yacht with 3 or 4 adults and 3 children on board in the Indian ocean. When they are caught there should be no prisoners. POWDERMAN.

These godless scum are holding hundreds of prisoners and at least 30 vessels, that needs to be addressed quickly and decisively, then destroy the pirates taking no prisoners. These rabid animals have lairs that should be attacked without mercy. POWDERMAN.
