My son, grandaughter and I went to a rally for the Right to Carry within Illinois at the Pontiac Elks Club on 2/21/11. Good turnout, took an older retired city councilman along. ISRA and Illinois Right to Carry sponsered it and said it will happen they just couldn't say when? Once again, Chicago is the main wrench in this gear box buy, many up there are starting to get "up in arms"(pun intended) about this subject, also.
I was considering not going to IGOLD this year but, may change my mind after this rally?

Well BUGEYE, if more would join the band wagon, maybe sooner? I see in your profile you are from Georgia(not Illinois) but, don't see any affiliations to progun groups( NRA, state rifle assosiaton, right to carry)? Is it just not that important to you, appears your just a fence sitter? Thanks for your imput.

I hear that our chances of this passing are better now Steve. This is just word of mouth from many officers in the Springfield area with most of the officers in full support.

Well S.B., I don't know why you want to start a "pissin" contest. I am from Illinois "Vienna" and still have a brother and many cousins there, so I try to keep up on what's happening there.
no, I am not a fence sitter. I'm an NRA life member, I keep my e-mail hot going to my reps. both state and federal and I participate in the political forum here.
If you apologize for calling names it Will be accepted. we need to stand together, not pushing people out.

At this writing, I think that the CCW has passed in the Committee but still needs to go to the general assembly to succeed.

I am not saying that it will go but yet our chances have never been better.

Steve, (or others) if this does pass what is the cost for the training and permit?...I remember you talking about going to St Louis last year to get this part out of the way. $150 to $175?

Randy, I haven't heard anything about these costs but, you can bet this won't be cheap! It'll have to get by Quinn's veto also.

I lived there from 1976 to 1997. We called it Crook County. For a good reason. It really is run by criminals and I'm not just talking about your typical politician on the take. I'm also talking about violent thungs as well. Not much has really changed there. They just got better at hiding it.

Over 70% of the population of Illinois resides inside of Cook County. That's a huge stumbling block on it's own.
When I visit any gathering, be it a forum or in person, that involves firearm interests, my assumtion is that the greatest majority of those in attendance are members of the NRA. I believe I'm on pretty safe ground in assuming it. Flip side of that is I do not assume that only those I see wearing an NRA hat or belt buckle, or with an NRA bumber sticker, to be members of the organization. What unites us, not what divides us. I believe that S.B. commited a poor choice of words trying to espouse membership rather that "calling him out", but, 2 questions we should all ask ourselves: Is being an NRA member doing enough for the cause and, is the NRA doing all it can for the cause in general and Illinois in particular?

Oh come on now. The 2006 population of Illinois is 12,831,970. The population of Cook County is 5,288,655. So “other then” Cook County is 7,543,315.

The population of Cook County is 40% of Illinois.

40% is still a pretty good chunk of the state. Then you have Rockford and all the college towns to deal with also. I live in Cook county and have a lot of friends that are gun loving, foid hating Illinoisans, so there are a few of us up here.

I've heard absolutely nothing since I posted this? It is out of committee but, who knows when it will go to a vote? Quinn has said he'll veto it if it goes to his desk! Getting it back through both houses with a 2/3 majority will be a challange to say the least.
