Which rifle do you wish HR1871 still made?
« on: February 24, 2011, 05:24:11 AM »
For me it is a tie between the older style Topper with the thinner profile barrel, and the other would be the Sidekick Stainless Blackpowder rifle.

The Toppers I have are all in 30-30 and are a joy to shoot and carry. They come to shoulder quickly and swing well from an elevated stand when whitetail hunting. Shooting from a bench is a snap with 30-30 caliber that I have. I have various 20mm variable scopes on mine.

The Sidekick was a very inexpensive for me to purchase way of getting into muzzleloading rifle hunting. The Stainless/nickel was a great way to keep your muzzleloading from becoming a rustfest in your barrel. One of the Sidekicks we have is a 24" barreled version with a 20 mm variable scope and is my favorite and came from the factory with a 2 3/4 lb. trigger pull. This rifle hunts with the same features of the older Toppers,  lightweight, easy to carry, comes to shoulder easy and is rust resistant as well. Who knows with new acc. barrels now being available maybe the Sidekick /Huntsman will be available again in the future.

Those are my wishes, what are yours?

The Trapdoor Carbine at a price I could afford.

357 Max and 30/30 both, with tapered barrels like the Topper, but would like it on the SB2 receiver. And for my third wish, a different profile on the hammer for easier scope mounting. I went through many contortions getting scope mounted the way I wanted on my Toppers!  :P

In fact, I'd the perfect Handi would be able to have a choice for a tapered/lightweight barrel in all/any calibers , and a different profile hammer!

p.s. a 4th wish would be Swampman's  - a Trapdoor Carbine...  that I could afford! I came across one many years ago that was a distressed sale kinda thing, but even then it was more than I was willing to spend!  :-\

Oh yeah, zackyholdem's  below: "sights for all" - that too!

The 357 Max. I'd want it with sights and a superlight barrel contour.
You'd be hard pressed to find a better truck/atv gun.

Well, I really have pretty much all the calibers so it doesn't matter much to me.
What I would like though is a long barrel 500, 28".
That way we could make a real 50 cal out of it.
Anybody got a reamer for a 500?  ::) ;D

The ones that I am interested in they still make.  .223, .22-250, 25-06, 30-06, .35 Whelen, and the 45-70.  The only other one I would be interested in they never made.  That would be the .338 Win Mag.  They had plans to make a .300 Win Mag at one time, but that was not a cartridge I like.  Just a souped up 30-06.

.45 Colt rifle and a 16 gauge shotgun would be nice.
