how is trigger pull on k31?

Ten years ago was when i looked at a k31. Now is when i can afford to waste money on one. How are the trigger pulls on them? The one that i tried had a two-stage trigger, with a light and smooth first stage followed by a crisp 3 lb second stage, as good as any Timney or Sako i ever squezed.
How is trigger pull on your k31? Soft, long, mushy, like a Mosin Nagant or Mauser?

would not call it a waste they are one of the more accurate rifles and mine as noted has a great trigger. It's value increase since i got it is ahead of the stock market.

Think the Swiss put a trigger in my K31 like they build watches!

2 Stage, crisp at 3Lbs - Its the only Mil-Surp I've ever had that didn't need a trigger job or an after market replacement.

Thank you for your answers.  That rifle 10 years ago did leave an impression and i am glad that that trigger was not unusual.
I will get one k31 this spring. A waste, since a don't need one, but years from now me and grandkids will be glad to have it.

I lube the rotating bolt cams with moly.  The swiss actually recommend using moly on it too. You can add some moly to the sear too. It will smooth out the trigger even more and lessen the trigger pull too.  The moly on the bolt cams makes pulling the straight bolt back much easier too.                           CZY

What a great gun, and I have really learned to appreciate the 7.5 round.  Too bad the surplus is berdan primed.

These were an awesome buy at just $79 when no one wanted them. At first they were selling the beech and walnut stocks at the same price and you got what you got with no choice.  But as the ammo became more available the popularity grew. The woods stocks do clean up nice if you steam some of the dings out.  Its funny how good the bluing is when we compare it to the condition of the wood stocks.  The bluing is 100% excellent condition while the wood stocks are a good "-" rating if that. I just don't get it that the condition of the wood is so bad when the condition of the bluing looks so great.

I originally bought my K-31 for $99.00 in Dallas/Fort Worth and hunted through the racks of them, until I found the one that I thought looked the best.  Pulled the bolt and looked down the barrel.....I remember thinking "Wow!!  Could not believe that it was smooth, looked to be almost pristine!!

It is now 9 years later and this is probably the most accurate rifle that I won.  The trigger pull is true to Swiss precision - "like a watch" (two stages and right at 3 lbs.)!!  I have hit a 3x5 index card at 137 yards, 3 times with 4 shots.

The last time I was in Cabela's - they were $300.00 (still a good value IMHO).

The trigger on mine mirrors everyone else's.  At the time, it was as, or more accurate than my '03 and A3 Springfields.  I ended up using reformed .284 Winchester brass with good .308 bullets, and loaded the ammunition to match .308/7.62 performance, and those loads shot better than the ammunition I could afford then.  I had it under the table at a gunshow in Cheyenne, Wyo. one year, with some targets, and when I had it out, and showing off the targets, a fella offered me $350 for the rig.  It went away.  Still kicking myself over that one.....
It was interesting shooting the thing at a "vintage" military rifle match.  In the rapid fire strings, the cases would go into a sub-orbital trajectory and hit the scorer in the chest behind me.

My K-31 has a good trigger and shoots very well.  It will put all the shots in the 10-ring of the 200yd SR1 target from prone position.  I will be competing with it in the Vintage Rifle Match at Camp Perry this August.  My load is: 308 cal 135gr Sierra Match King bullet, 42.5gr IMR 4064 powder, CCI 200 primer, and 284 Winchester case.  Velocity is 2600fps.

Rev Recoil , it seems you do well with a light bullet. Might have to try em. I use the 168gr HPBT Match Kings and also IMR 4064. Freaky accurate rifles. Both my K31's had crud build up in the triggers when I got them. I cleaned em up and lubed them with Mili Tec and they are butter smooth.

Smokeye, A heavy bullet is not needed for 200yd targets.  A lighter bullet makes rapid fire prone easier.  Some of the other K-31 shooters I know are shooting well with Speer 120 and 125gr HP bullets.

I am a Cowboy Action shooter and have been for 13 years.  In competition every two weeks and this has resulted in alot shooting needless to say.  Entered a Military Match with my K-31 Schmidt-Rubin straight-pull and questions were being asked from every direction.

Won my class and the match overall.....heard that the following week there was a "run" on K-31's at the local vintage military store.

One of the better gun investments in my life!!

I use moly on the sears too.  You could try gun grease at first to see the difference but moly is way more slippery on the let off. I did purchase some priv partizan loaded ammo to get the brass i figure i can shoot her once then reload what i want.

I got mine for $79 plus the $10 Oregon transfer tax (or back ground check fee as they call it.)  The stock is a bit beat up gvub
but the metal is all beautiful.  The trigger pull is the best this side of a target rifle that I've ever tried.

A month ago I sold my K31 to a gent who appreciates well made military rifles.  He owns a wide range of rifles, from very nice custom benchrest rifles to large bore rifles for his African game hunting.  He made me an offer for my K31 I couldn't refuse and I gave him the 7.5 Swiss Wolf/priv/GP11 ammo I had too.   Anyway, the trigger pull on the K31 pleased him......heck, it impressed him.
