HEAR ME OUT
« on: February 25, 2011, 02:37:25 AM »
Radical times require radical countermeasures.
I think it is time that we suck in and defend the home front.
This is not an unthought out, knee jerk.
Our time in history as a peacekeeper and boarding house for the world is over. We should be able to work globally but our eyes should be on the home front.
We need to, for awhile, become American first.
We need to re-institute a limited, well thought out draft of capable Americans.
Dissident, Muslim based immigration should be halted---Shades of Lincoln's should be sent home based on intelligence---which should include all illegals.
This army should be sent to defend and regulate/control our borders. Downsize our Navy to have ships which can patrol our seas and coastlines with vessels that would accommodate this need.
We have the capabilities to strike anywhere in this world and we should maintain a presence but not as great as we do now.
If we are going to fight somebody, let's do it to win and come home.
I am tired of this political sparring we get involved in.
The armed forces should be made up good, upstanding boys and girls (men and women) not society cast-offs----in other words, they need to be qualified in morals and intelligence.
Soap box is clear.
Blessings

William good points . I would point out we have a Coast Guard already and all they need is funding . They have been in most thin water action America has been in . They operated some of the landing craft in WW2 and are on patrol in the Gulf war. Don't strip our navy to remake what we have.
Just take the gloves off all branches , give them a goal and stay out the way.
Once the military is involved the state dept should pack it in and go home .

right on shootall.  it is the political micro-managing of the military that is screwing it up.   once you send the attack dog, let it bite.    and, keep the damn media away from our troops.  this imbedded reporter thing is the stupidest idea ever.   if they want to enter the war zone on their own, groovy.  but they aint riding with us, they aint talking to us, and if they get in the way, we aint stopped for them.    period.

it seems to me pretty obvious what needs to happen to get things on track.  no one seems to have the guts to do it though.

I'm all for keeping it very simple and just securing and defending our borders.  Right now I'd be happy if the southern border were being attended to like it ought to be.  The quick way to get that done would be to bring the troops home from South Korea and deploy them across the southern U.S.A.

I do not believe we need a draft.  We've got plenty of good troops scattered around the world that need to be brought home to get the job done here.  I especially do not believe we need to downsize our navy ships.

But let's face it; until we get a real President and a Senate that isn't half socialist, nothing good is going to happen.  And by the time that ever happens, we're going to have other problems that will make what's going on right now, seem pretty tame.

Lots of good posts here and I'm glad William started it, it's plain none of the posters voted for the obamination. Our military are NOT police officers, and like others said, they should be allowed to WIN. Is this the change some of you voted for??POWDERMAN.  >:( >:(

Well said except Naval forces portion. America has alot of merchant ships at sea. With aircraft carrier tasks forces the US projects alot of sea power and is an instant war ready force that can be deployed very quickly. Pulling all of that from over seas leaves American shipping at who ever has the biggest gun. You simply could not build an aircraft large enough to replace a merchant ship.

Police officers enforce the law.
Military projects power, wages war and is the fianl diplomatic solution.
Would be nice if politicians knew this.

A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

Yep. Bring back national service, I agree. Draftees should be used to man border overwatch positions, (watchtowers). Return our troops to our nation and territories only. germany,Italy and many other nations have their own military. If the un wants military intervention, they can use somebody elses military, let them even up the scorebord, we're way out in front. I agree with naval forces, continued presence in International waters, projects a pro active defense ability.

Since we have no money I think we should mind our own business.  We bombed Bagdad from Louisiana and came back in less than 24 hours.

WL, great idea to me (particularly the moral part)! Shu polished it, with our exports and imports travelling 80% at sea and growing per current reporting, we will always need the ability to ensure trade routes remain open. If you closed 90% of our overseas bases, you'd save alot of $. You'll still need some forward prepositioning supply points to support maritime operations, like Diego Garcia, etc.

As per border control, reverse the decision to engage National Guardsmen as Army/Air Force reserves; give them back to their respective States, and let the States deploy them on their borders. I would avoid putting DOD troops on point for border patrol, but employ DOD assets (like UAV, etc. ) in support.

Border patrol duties should be a part of the military---arrested suspects turned over to local police.
Two fold purpose---it allows police forces to work domestic and Military to work national security.

We can end illegal immagration quickly and easily.
We have planes headed for the middle east, europe, and the far east, every day.  Stick the illegals on the plane headed over to pick up our troops or deliver supplies, and drop them off there.  no if ands or butts.  Send them all to Guantanimo and clear them drom there.  Drop them off at their embasy in Cuba once we are sure they are not a threat to the US. Why are we  deporting them to their country of origin?  Why are we not sending them where ever it is easist for us to send them so they are not back after a long weekend home.  And make them think if they really want to break our laws in comming here.
We need to see the drug cartels in Mexico as a clear and present danger and either let the mexican government get them or the Seals.  We have invaded Mexico in the past. Most reciently in 1916 to chase Pancho Villa who robed a back in Texas and shot up the town.  We now have Mexican cartels opperating as far north as Tucson AZ and raiding the baorder with reports of the Mexican Army providing cover fire for the drug mules to cross.

I agree hole heartedly. However, our country is leaderless. Our politicians don't have the stomach to do what right and just. We are more likely to fail then to succeed as a nation now. It will eventually end up in the hands of the people to fix the disaster we will all face. It’s not going to be pretty and I fear our children will never know what this country was really all about.

This Deep Water Sailor intends to establish and set the US Coast Guard record entirely straight.  I navigated the USCG Cutter Burton Island, WAGB 283, from north pole to south pole and back again, twice, visiting many many of the ports in the Pacific along the route.

"Revenue Marine" was the former name for the Coast Guard and its original purpose was to blockade ports, run down and apprehend or destroy Pirates and French Man-o-Wars, and borer patrol along all of the United States Coast.

Other ships of the Coast Guard still make the polar traverse today.  Coast Guard Cutters are found in every sea across the globe alongside our sister ships of the US Navy.   Principally, Coast Guard Cutters are Life Stations, Rescue Ships, and support to Aids to Mariners whereas Naval Vessels are DoD with first strike capability.

The sea favors no man whether Holligan or Squid.  I suspect that drug interdiction puts live ammunition and active weaponry in the hands of Coast Guardsmen more often today than their Naval counterparts.  We don't bang away from 20 miles off shore and send in the Marines while drinking coffee either!  Plenty of Coast Guard operated small craft saved many Army and Marine hides from along the banks of the Vietnamese rivers and waterways.

sorry for the rant, but this old Coastie is feeling sensitive tonight...

As long as politcians main goal is to get re-elected,there will be no hard choices made.I say make all Federal congress posts limited to two terms and an absolute ban of former congressmen becoming lobbiest for anybody. Hard times call for hard choices,. We have all that drug crap plus illegal alien issues here in Arizona, and it will never change.Politicians are afraid of being labeled a racist.

A deep water Navy is essential, I am not sure that it is necessary to maintain the fleet at its present level.
The Coasties are a great group of overlooked patriots.
They, like the Marines, are under the Naval jurusduction and I agree with that.
I am not advoctaing a police state.
I don't even advocate getting out of the UN though I don't see the UN to be a viable peacekeeping entity that it was designed to be.
Alliances are very important---do not think that we can ever be an island unto ourownselves.
I advocate a very close association with Mexico---one that has very strict guidelines and understandings--ones they understand and understand the consequences of violation.
I would like Panama to be apart of our alliance group, Belize and all nations South of Mexico.
Mexico has need to have a revolution--!!

Any revolution in Mexico at this point would probably put the drug cartels in charge.  What they really need is a thorough house cleaning.  I'll not hold my breath until that happens.

Anyway, regardless of what happens in Mexico, we need to secure our borders so that what happens in Mexico, stays in Mexico.
