Under cover cop ?
« on: February 25, 2011, 02:43:57 AM »
I was on a jobsite this week. I was by my truck on the phone . No one was really close , maybe 30 yards or more away. Now consider this site is a bad crime area. It is in govt. apartments that are being facelifted. In the last several weeks 2 workers have been shot , one stabbed and one robbed at gun point. So While I stand there this car pulls up and this guy rolls out about 10 feet from me heading my way. He is rough looking ( under cover cop ) so I get my hand on my gun . He backs away seeing I'm on the phone and goes to another guy. As he passes I see his jacket has what looks like a cape on the back and it is pushed up on one side . Under the cape you can see yellow letters PO , the rest is covered. He was a city cop in the county. He was looking to rent an apt ( his story) and wanted to know where rental office was. His buddy in the car and most likely him saw the gun but said nothing. Close call ?
Was the west this wild ?

Because he told the guy he talked to he was. Keep in mind this is a drug infested area . We watched many deals go down while on site. The problem is there is one way in and out so the dealers have guards posted.

I can think of some parts of the West and Southwest that are even wilder.

Here I was told by LEO's to carry a gun before we could legal . They said they could take care of any problems. I guess these guys either missed it or had bigger fish to fry. We do have some good cops here .

Did you have ID on the vehicle you were in so he could guess you were a working man and not a scumbag?

By you signalling "thats close enough" probably would have drawn "I'm a cop" from him had he NOT been undercover. PO? Isn't that Parole Office(r) ? I wonder how the state workers insurance program like covering construction injuries that are due to assault? Hope you guys are getting paid extra!

shootall, yep, often we forget how many GOOD cops there are performing a usually thankless job. Thanks for the reminder. I know some good guys in LE, and have met some that,........well........  Just like anyplace, good and...

id have to say that if i was a LEO, the first person id talk to and identfy myself to is one thats obviously armed.id walk straight up to him and shake his hand and tell him why i was there and what i was doing.avoiding yu does make him look like a scumbag.ive found that being perfectly straight up with people will get yu a long way.

He was under cover , He bypasses me after he saw I was on the phone . They seemed in a hurry. If you have never been in areas where the drug war is big time and covers large areas it would be hard to understand how things happen and why. I think the cop had other pressing business . As for shaking hands , it would be like saluting an officer in a war zone - just making both him and I a target.
It did happen before 1 PM , those aware of these areas understand the 1 AM thing  ;)

I use to live in St. Louis and know well what you mean. In areas I've been, anyone out at 1am is usually one of two things. A BG or LE.

My guess if he was legitimate undercover you would have had no clue he was a cop and he Definately would not have told anyone. Nothing in his immediate possession would have resembled anything of authority. Probably an off duty or plain clothes. At least you know a good guy is around.

I'd say if he was undercover, his career will be short and violent.
This that I do, I do by my own free will.
