Using our resources
« on: February 25, 2011, 02:55:52 AM »
During the second world war Germany was denied many of the resources to make fuel and tires. They managed to make both of these from their coal reserves. This country has some of the largest reserves in the world, yet I don't see any movement in the direction of converting that fuel. Are we going to continue being the slaves of big oil and the hostages of the oil cartel.Just the employment this endeavor would create would start us moving in the right direction and keep our dollars at home.

Keep in mind who occupies the White House and what he thinks of coal.  You might also keep in mind that he doesn't like oil.  He's a "green energy" guy--whatever that is.

Coal is vitally important to America, thats why the obamination has vowed to shut the industry down. Stop and think of all the industries that depend on it and those who depend on those industries. The obamination is just driving another nail in Americas coffin. POWDERMAN.  >:( >:(

This country is being held hostage by a highly visiable and highly vocal minority.  They have the Congress and the White House in their pockets.  These environmental groups do not hesitate to sue to stop any development in this country.  They seem to know which judge and how to see that they get that judge so they will get their way.  When the White House could not get Global Warming legislation passed in congress they just unleashed the EPA, so the same thing could be done by regulation.

The EPA has been shutting down Texas Oil Refineries by refusing to renew their operating permits.  They recently pulled the permit for a coal mine in WV.  Shell oil had the drilling rig in place and was having supplies delivered to a drilling platform in the Beaufort sea off Alaska's northern coast.  EPA pulled the permit, saying they needed to have another look at how some village over 250 miles away might be impacted by smoke from the rig.  When was the last time you saw a new Iron Mine, new Copper Mine, new Gold Mine, new Coal Mine, or any other kind of resource development?

Here in Alaska we have the largest Copper prospect ever surveyed.  Not only Copper, by Gold, and Molybdenium.  The mining company doing the exploritory work has said they will be applying for permits later this year or early next year.  Yet we in Alaska and other NW states have been enduring  Anti-Pebble adds on the TV and radio for the last three years.  The Antis (Envorinmental Groups) keep painting a dooms day scenerio for the entire watershed to Bristol Bay if the Pebble Mine is permitted to be developed.  The driving force behind this is a multi millionaire from California who has a hunting and fishing lodge near the mine.  Development will spoil his view.

We had the same thing predicted when Fort Knox Gold mine applied for permits.  Fort Knox was approved and is currently in operation.  One of the benifits from the mine was the clearity of the stream they got their water from to process their gold.  The stream was full of naturally occuring pollutants.  Arsonic being the major one.  There was no Grayling in the stream due to the poor water quality.  Since Ft Knox went into operation the water being returned to the stream is much higher quality and Grayling have moved upstream all the way to the outfall pond at the mine.

Same with the Alaska Oil Pipeline.  That project was supposed to decimate the Northern Alaska Caribou Herd.  Since the pipeline was put in place the herd has grown ten fold.

We have the resourses to be totally self sufficiant on oil and other minerals, all we have to do is educate the US populass and vote these environmental whackos out of office.  Then hamstring the EPA and other government groups that block development.  there is a differance in setting regulations to protect the environment and people, and making it impossiable to do any development.  Currently the "impossiable" is being pushed.
Where is old Joe when we really need him?  Alaska Independence    Calling Illegal Immigrants "Undocumented Aliens" is like calling Drug Dealers "Unlicensed Pharmacists"
What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

Just so you will know: The oil & gas industry is working away everywhere they are allowed to. The rigs running in the US totaled 1699 this week. There are 358
drilling in the Permian Basin which is part of this area and 24 of those are in my county. If NM modifies the pit rule instituted under Bill Richardson to suck up to the environmentalists is modified there will be a big increase in that last number. More oil means lower prices and the US industry is working 24/7 to deliver it. Now if the government would just do their part.

A note on Libya from the AP today. A big part of the reduction in oil leaving Libya is the fact that tankers have quit calling to pickup oil. The tanks at their ports are filling up and they have had to cut back production due to no storage facilities. Also a lot of the workers at these facilities have left but if you don't have ships to load that shouldn't be a problem.

As much as I agree with the "strategic reserve" concept, I say do the drilling and get AK going full bore. Coal? I can't believe that any president would publicly declare to shut that industry down, and then appear to be doing just that.  Sink a few holes in the Dakotas and tap the field that extends north.

But, the more money gasoline costs..... the more tax revenue for the states. With tax increases being voted down in local and state elections, they're going to get it from somewhere. Its nothing new to have them steal from one account and give it to another. With the tax base loss by sending jobs offshore, its only going to get worse.

America had better rethink its agendas and give up the notion of being the worlds savior.

I have a much better idea. Lets close all coal mines, stop drilling/refining oil, stop all logging, only purchase goods that aren't American made. Then lets demand that everyone purchase health insurance at inflated rates becuase the government will fine them if they don't buy. Then as a matter of diplomacy and foriegn policy give billions of dollars to countries that hate America and would like to see its destruction. Oh wait nevermind that is all ready being done.

Better plastic toilet paper than a pine cone. :o

I am all for conservation but in a logical thought out process. Just throwing bans to throw them out is not thought out. The department of energy was created to reduce our dependece on foriegn oil. Since its creation we have become more dependant.

Recycle what you can, conserve what you can and just keep going.
