.375H&H, .30-06, .270 one powder
« on: February 25, 2011, 07:46:33 AM »
250 grainers in the .375H&H. 180s in the .30-06. 130s in the .270.

I'm thinking IMR-4350, IMR-4831, or one of the RL powders.

Any suggestions?

:D Swampman, I have loaded very little for the .270, but what I did load for it I used IMR4350...For the other two, IMR 4350 was my first choice...also for the .300 H & H if you get that project moving..I did have a .300 H & H barrel on a 700 action and it fed just fine..it was a 7mm mag. to begin with....(some one mentioned this as a possible problem...the magazine box was fine)

Hi Swamp....I load for these three as well.  I use RL15 for the 375, H414 for the 06 and RL22 for the 270.

Having said that....H414 has shown decent accuracy and consistancy of velocity in all of these and it is, I beleive the Ball Powder version of H4350...so 4350 should be good to go.

IMR-4350 is my go-to powder for my 270s

IMR 4350 is a good compromise for all these rounds. Not quite the fastest velocity producer in the cals., but you will not notice the difference. You might need a drop tube to get in all you need in the 375.

IMR 4350 works well in the 300 H&H as well.

My loads for these three calibers:

375 H&H xx grains H4895, 235 grain Speer, 3072 FPS, 3 shot group size .608 inch,  Enfield 1917 Action, Shaw Barrel.
30-06 xx grains H4895, 150 Grain Hornady, 2508 FPS, 3 shot group size .592 inch,  Springfield 1903 Action, original barrel 19" long in a fully glass bedded mannlicher stock

This 1903 30-06 rifle also shoots sub MOA groups with H380 Powder with both 130 and 150 grain bullets.

Note I have customized 3, 1903 Springfields with the original military barrels and all three will shoot sub MOA groups.

.270 Winchester, xx grains H450, 130 grain Speer or 140 grain Hornady both shoot into less than 3/4 inch,  Enfield 1917 Action, Shaw Barrel

My favorite medium bore rifle.
.338 Winchester Mag, xx grains H450, 200 grain Speer, 2881 FPS, 3 shot groups .322, and .348 , Enfield 1914 Action, Shaw Barrel, MPI Stock.
Note: be careful, this load is higher than the loading manuals list, but was worked up 1 grain at a time and shows no high pressure signs in my rifle.

My long range rifle:
.308 Norma Magnum, xx grains H450, 165 grain sierra, 3018 FPS, 3 shot group .532,  Savage 110 Action, Shaw Barrel ,laminated bishop stock.
same load of H450 pushes a 150 grain Nosler to 3320 FPS with a group size of .572.   These same loads worked well in  a 30/338 mag wildcat with is almost exactly the same as the .308 Norma.

Big Bore:

.458 Winchester Mag, xx grains of N-202, 350 Grain Hornady, group size .762,  1914 Enfield Action, Shaw Barrel, English Walnut stock.  It also shoots cast bullets in the 1 inch group range.

My Ruger No1 in 45/70 shoots multiple jacketed bullet loads grouping in the .6 and .7 tenths area , but they are too hot to post online as they approach .458 Winchester Mag levels.  Only work done on this rifle was to replace the factory trigger.
It shoots sub MOA with cast bullets also.

My go to powder for most of my calibers is IMR 4350 It has proved to mos accurate inthe mayjority of my calibers. It's the only powder I will load in my 338 win.

Either of the 4350's should provide very good performance in those calibers.

One powder for all 3 of those cartridges will mean a compromise for one or all three.  AA4350 (smaller kernalled with better loading density) would be my choice based on use in all 3 cartridges.  It works very well in .270 and '06 with those bullets but is a bit slow in the .375 with 250 gr bullets.  Thus the compromise is there.  A faster powder like 4064 or Varget will work quite well in the '06 and .375 but will be a compromise in the .270.  I suggest using 2 powders.  AA 4350 in the .270 and '06 and Varget or 4895 in the .375.  I know that's not what you want but it's the best solution for best performance in all 3 cartridges.

Seems like Varget would be very fast for the .375H&H.  I had good luck with it in the .30-06 when I shot High Power.
