The contender made it's first kill!
« on: December 22, 2003, 03:58:29 AM »
This weekend I finally got a kill with the TC.  Went rabbit/tree rat hunting with the 16" .22 with red dot.  I got a rabbit!  We didn't see any tree dwellers otherwise I am confident that they would have become prey for the tc.  I was pretty happy to get the rabbit since I bought this for the .35 rem barrel and didn't even get to hunt with it this deer season.  This was my first ever pistol kill...first of many I hope!

That's how I started out. My first kill was on a squirrel with a 22 contender. We used to hunt squirrels by floating down the river in a canoe. If you can pop one of them with a pistol from a boat, you've made a great shot! It makes you (almost) feel guilty shooting deer and other big targets from solid footing. But it makes your first contender kill feel really great! Congrats on the rabbit!

Ghost , congrats on harvesting the bunny. I'd  like to see the expression on your face when you drop your 1st whitetail.

I wish I could have seen my face after my 1st kill. A nice 8pt at 130 yrds took three steps and dropped. That was the first of 11 deer taken with my 35 Rem.

If you plan on handloading for it the best bullet I have found for it is the Hornady 180 gr. Single Shot Pistol bullet. I've used that bullet on every whitetail taken. Great accuracy and devastating terminal velocity.

Good Luck! Hope to read about your first whitetail harvest here.

Happy Holidays
