I think a semi-auto was made for a while, maybe by AMT??? The grip was quite long to accomodate the length of the cartridges.
I recall reading about a ship-board machinist in WW2 who converted some sort of revolver to .30 carbine, and there have been various other "one-offs".

Oh yea, almost forgot about the Universal Arms "Enforcer", a pistol version of their M-1 carbine copy. About a 10" barrel, and of course a handgun stock only.

Also S&W for a revolver and J Kimball for a semi. I have an AMT Automag III. Some are known to jam until broken in. I just polished it up with a dremel and skipped the jamming.

I had a Ruger Blackhawk for a while, mild recoil, flat shooting and accurate but oh man was it ever LOUD!

I have owned a Thompson Contender and Ruger for years, I would have been wiser to spend the money on something useful. :( :-[

I have the Ruger Blackhawk. Unless I wipe a very small amount of case lube on the cartridges they tend to be very tough to extract. However since I reload them, it is really not a problem. I like the high velocity, flat shooting .30 carbine. It make a good match with my M1 Carbine ... I'm partial to revolver/carbine combos.

+1 on that.  I sold mine after about 50 rounds.  Even with ear plugs it was too loud for me.

Ruger still makes the single action blackhawk in 30 carbine.  I checked thier website and she is still listed. 8)  Used to have one, was my 10 year olds faverite handgun.  He is in the Army now first active then went national guard.  It was a good handgun but expensive to shoot, not one I reload for. ;)

I have a friend that has a AMT. Man is that thing accurate. He let me shoot it a while back and I could bust clay pigeons set up on the berm at 100 yards with every shot. That thing is LOUD.

The AMT Automag III is a very nice automatic.  It's accurate, functions smoothly, very loud and throws a nice flame down range when you use H-110 or 296 powder. 

Unfortunately, they haven't made the Automag III since about the 90's so they're hard to come by and expensive if you do find one.
