Open sight tang safety guns

Does anyone have any idea how many of these were produced? I have one in 270 and only seen a few of them. Were they from the first year of production?

The Ruger M 77 RS (for Rings & Sights) was produced for quite a few years. I bought my '06 in 1976 and saw quite a few others over the years.

Not too many people ever saw the M 77 with a receiver that was drilled & tapped for Weaver type bases rather than having the Ruger mounting bases as part of the receiver. I have a friend that owns one of those. It too has open sights.

the first rugers were round tops. the ones flash is refering to that needed bases and rings. Your gun is an rs and lots of them were produced.

The M77 ST is the model that is drilled and tapped for bases. I have one in 25 06.

No, my gun is a 77ST, not an RS. It has round receiver rings and isn't milled to accept ruger rings. I have since learned that it's an early 77 but I was curious to the production numbers.
