Ruger #1B "Liberty" in 6mm Rem....
« on: March 01, 2011, 02:58:40 AM »
I found this rifle in a friend's gunshop. They put it on hold for me. I'm bad about 'impulse buying' guns, I buy them and then only a few months later I wonder why I bought them.
This one is mine for $400 if I want it. Great price but a great price is not the best reason to buy something if it's going to hide in the safe.
Anyone own one, accuracy results? handling in the deer woods?
Decision time is today! so thanks for input.
PS-I don't want to buy to resell for some profit. I know they run around $500+ from what I've seen.

The  6mm rem has the approximately same ballistics as a .243 winchester round. Its case is a little larger and uses just slightly more powder to achieve the same results.
If you do not already own a .24 cal rifle and want one, then buy this rifle. It is a great price.

I have one, killed a lot of chucks at long range with it, my favorite rifle. I reload for it, they are getting hard to find. Dan

Buy it!  I had my hands on a Ruger #1 with a heavy barrel in a 223 with a 6.5 x 20 x 40 leupold vx111 for only $650.  Thought and thought and set it back down.  Went back the next day to pick it up and it was gone.  Snooze you lose!  The 6mm is a nice cartridge and will keep your other guns in the safe happy till you take her out for some fun ;)

Good luck,

That is a great buy!!! My older brother had a 700ADL that was a fine shooter in that round. It is a little faster than the 243, I like it.

At that price you can't lose, you can getr your money back or have a great trade item. Hard to lose on that deal.

I forgot to mention it is a "Made in the 200th Year of Liberty" version. Nicety to ad value.
I need to decide and call about either purchasing or declining it today!

Hillbill, it happens to me too often. I see, I like, I think "gee, always wanted one of those {whatever}. Then I buy, I keep, I fondle a few times, drawing it up to my shoulder. Sometimes I even buy dies and scope them. Then every now and then I actually get to the RANGE and shoot it!
Then it sits in the safe.
Lately I've been thinking even more that, I am impulse buyer. Ranges are farther away, not the 'few miles' they used to be, heck, even a truck hood was good enough especially since I started varmint hunting and purchased bipods [Harris Swivel type are the only ones to consider : ).
But now the ranges are an hour away or more, and traffic plays a huge part around Atlanta!
There is a range, a nice range with 300 yards at the rifle section. I've said I would join the club for a couple years now and havn't.
I need to.
Pitiful, huh!?

i know what yu mean! my range tho is in my back yard.i had ruger 1 for quite a few years and whacked a lot of deer with it.the only thing i didnt like other than it was kinda heavy was that when slung and walking, id find the lever partially open.it was a great stand rifle and never failed me.that is a great price if yu want one tho.

I've owned a grand total of ONE Ruger #1 and it was a 1B in 6mm Remington. That was the second least accurate rifle I've ever owned. Rarely could I keep a group on an 8.5"x11" target sheet at 100 yards. I tried factory loads and reloads and don't think it ever shot a group under 6". Needless to say it didn't stay long at my house.

I traded it for a Browning Low Wall .243 Win and that rifle consistently shot between 0.4" and 0.8" at 100 yards with anything I fed it.
