FOID released to the public, right to carry

Good news and bad new that I came across today.

Bad new first, State general attorney Lisa Madigan says that the IL state police must release their list of IL FOID holds that are capable of owning firearms,  so far the IL state police are holding up for gun owners in that they have yet to release this info also stating that it is a violation of are privacy.

Thanks for the links bigbird09, I caught part of this on the 10 oclock news.

The bottom line is that there is no good reason for it because it is just drawing a road map to your door. The opposite is also true as a Perp would find a residence without a foid owner of great intrest. Flordia had a bad spell there in the 90's with horrific carjackings and murders. The targets were rental cars as the perps realized that the vehical with FL plates were likely to be armed because the ccw was in effect.

I would still not want my information to be disclosed...simply no good reason for it as said.

This "threat" of FOID holders name release shows the dangers of the whole requirement of the card in Illinois.

The background check is a Federal requirement and has NOTHING to do with the FOID.

The card should be eliminated to prevent abuses such as this- and it is supported by the State Attorney General?!?!

State Rep. Mike Bost (R) has introduced a bill to eliminate the FOID.

This bill needs the support of ALL of use. Contact your Rep. and tell them to support FOID repeal.

If someone has introduced a bill to get rid of the foid you best get it in gear. Letters (handwritten nice not nasty or threating) phone calls (same advice, you get more flies with sugar)  take the mayors advice early and often, emails are good but letters and calls are better, they can delete 1000 e mails with one click but paper makes an impressive pile and phones get attention. Get everyone you know involved even if you have to write and mail their letters. I understand the dead vote there, maybe they write letters also.

Thank you for the info bigbird09. Just found out about this last nite from my neighbor. I agree 100% with you 4296 in your post. At least my Rep. Don Moffitt is behind us all. He's very pro gun.

The digital age is getting stronger but yet torpedoman makes great sense as a true petition is in paper form with physical addresses and signatures of those in the residence.

Who wants the FOID info released?...At this writing, I beleve that it is the Newspapers.

Why do they (the newspapers) want this?...I think that it is their thought that the ccw will pass here this time and they would like to publish the names of all who qualify & recive this permit.

Will FOID ever be repealed?...IMO, I dont think that this will happen unless it is on a national level. IMO, I believe that even if you are not from IL, but do have a ccw permit, You have this identical card in your possession.

I spoke with Madigan's office yesterday along with all Reps and Senators on the list. Madigan's office boy told me Associted Press has asked for these names in court? Right of Information Act allows this? Bottom line is she is thinking of waiting until both houses can act upon it so, please call all on your lists, now?

I hope concealed passes in IL, but I doubt it. Then there's always the possibility Quinn will veto it. I know he claimed he would back CC legislation when he was campaigning, but we all know how far we can trust a politician.
I wrote a couple of letters anyway, though, even though I don't live there. All my family is there and what goes on there still intersts me.

Good luck fellows.  But, I don't think CCW will happen in Illinois, at least not as long as Chicago and the dem's rule the state.  Having lived in Illinois pretty much my entire life, all I can say is . . . I'm glad I moved to Virginia last year.  Easy CCW requirements and legal open carry.
