Nimrod Drilling
« on: March 02, 2011, 02:38:36 AM »
Looking at a Nimrod drilling. Double 16ga over 7x57R with a long 22mag insert.  :o  I've been told these are even better made than the Krieghoff drillings, The best of the best.

Opinions,

According to one friend that works on drillings, the internal parts of the action. Weight about 7# without the scope. It is a steel action.

Thanks,

A 7# drilling is about perfect, especially without a dural frame.  Most of the larger centerfires go over 7.5 without a scope so that sounds like a peach.
Does the Nimrod you are taking about have bases?  The 7x57r is a teriffic round as well for just about anything in the lower 48.

Any bells and whistles besides the insert?

BTW, the best of the best was probably the Krieghoff Neptun drillings.  There were others of equal quality, but they made a beautiful sidelock - for the well heeled.

Hey Byron

I have to ask, How much?

Does it have any scenes engraved?  Do you know when it was made?  Also i  remember reading that Nimrod was a trademark of Thieme & Schlegelmilch in Suhl.

Your right Doug, it's made by T&S. The price is a little scarry but were negotating that. After all we are in a recession.

I'll probably be selling a few guns I really no longer use to recover my investment. Guess as I get older I'd rather have fewer guns that I really want. With my health problems my hunting will be limited from here on out. The drillings just makes more sence for the stand hunting I'll be able to do.  :o  I doubt there will be anymore 40 mile walk-abouts in my hunting future.

If all this happens I'll send some pictures if you'll post them Doug. My son-in-law says my dsl is so slow it times out before the picture loads.

Recessions....

Having the scope and bases is more than just a plus.  Sounds like just the ticket for practically anything.
A 7mm shooting 175s will shoot through practically anything end to end.  Gamebore carries short 16s for about $15 a box and I use those for all of my upland.
My guess is that it has a greener safety, but when you're on stand and your son-in-law, grandkids and other family members drive all types of wild game past you it won't be much of an issue ;)
Hey, you have to do these things right.

Good luck with the endevor.

You guys know the difference in a recession & a depression??   ;)  It's a recession when your neighbor is out of work, and a depression when your out of work.

Doug is always trying to buy my good guns cheep.............. :o

Tom, I think this new drilling will be real nice for everything I will do with a drilling. Thats a great idea about the family beaters. I have a couple of grandsons that would need no trainning.  ;D  there naturals.

Well turns out my ffl guy had a massy stroke. After being hospitalized since the stroke and going to therapy several times a day he's fine ally home. I picked up the nimrod yesterday. It's really very nice. I'll try to get some pictures in the next few days.

Did you ever have a chance to get any photos?

I'm interested in seeing this, as I have an opportunity to get one in need of some repair, and would love to see what one looks like in it's glory,
