All, I said I would update on the "Calling All Mink Trappers" post that that posted last week. Well, I finally have some fur on the stretchers. Like I said in the previous post, I set 15 traps originally, and I made another 3 sets tonight. So far I have 3 rats out of the swamp. Not huge numbers, but it is a good start. Tonight I had one rat, 4 tripped traps, of which one had a rat toe, and one had a mink toe. Now the question. I was using a #1 on both. The muskrat just didn't drown. I understand how to make sure that doesn't happen again. But what about the mink? The set it was caught in was on top of a beaver dam. I used a #1 long spring. What could I have done other than make it drown to keep from toe catching and coming out? Will the mink come back, or have I ruined the chance to get this one?
