Rebarreling an 1885 Browning High Wall
« on: December 22, 2003, 03:06:46 PM »
I just picked up a Browning High Wall in 45-70 in a real good trade. My intention is to have it barreled to 7x57 in a light 22-24" barrel, maybe octagon. Who would be a good one for this job? Thanks. Mart

Mart, not many gunsmiths want to tackle the 1885's, as they're a pain to disassemble/reassemble, especially when you have to do it repeatedly as in fitting a new barrel.  One guy that I know of who does excellent work and sort of specializes in single shot rifles (and the Brownings) is Mike Lewis of Walden, Colorado.  He has rebarreled one Browning for me, and several for some other folks I know, and does top notch work.  If you want his contact info, email me at pennellgreg @ aol.com (remove the extra spaces).
