Bastonge Walnut!!!

Made this set from dark Bastonge Walnut. Designed the grip to soak up recoil by spreading it across the palm. Nice wide thumbrest.  Also give the grip a wide heel to sit the bag. The forearm is wide and flat tapering to the front, with rounded edges. Only has one coat of finish and the grain will pop with more finish.

(hornet/stinger grip. ) The grip is called, Baron, name given by my 3 year old grandson. Yes I understand many do not care for the look. For bench shooting its not very well suited for that. But I think the feel in the hand for general field use and hunting may surprise you.  Areas I hunt are rugged and a small slim grip carry's much easier for my spot and stalk hunting.

The above grip I call Get-A-Grip very well suited for bench use and was made to help the hand absorb recoil. It would also be good for stand hunting over fields or open areas.

Yeah, I'm just one who just doesn't like the look at all, so I'd never have to worry about carrying one in the field no matter how well the design works or how pretty the wood is.   I've had many styles of custom grips made I liked better that worked just fine in the field in all conditons.  Just personal taste is all.   

I call my spelling "fat or speed finger" spelling sometimes.   LOL   While I am good at spelling, I bump an extra letter sometimes, or type so fast a finger gets ahead of the others.   Why I have to proof read everything I type now days.

This set would be easily adaptable to use on a Bower Rest by just tapering the bottom of the forend a little back to front, would greatly improve accuracy and so effective range of any barrel being shot on it.

If you look close at the first picture the forearm is tapered a good bit. But then for MY style of shooting from a rest it wouldn't matter if it were not. I personally prefer to adjust at the heel and rest the forearm in the same spot each shot when bench shooting or working loads. Maybe it doesn't really matter but I feel more consistent shooting this way!

I've not seen any of your work that I have not drooled over.  It's all beautifully crafted and the wood selection is fantastic!  Bastogne Walnut is probably what I would like for my SS Contender Carbine.  I think the dark walnut with the almost black grain would be an excellent contrast to a full stainless barrrel/receiver combo.

I love wood working, but don't have the tools for the correct inletting.  Ever thought about inletting rough-cut stock and grip configurations for a DIY Home Project for others?

One beautiful grip. I think European walnut is much better than the domestic stuff, which also tens to be brittle. Wide grips in my medium/small hand try to remove my thumb. Only a problem over 300gr.
