Tracker 990???
« on: March 05, 2011, 08:21:01 PM »
Anybody have any experience with the Tracker 990 22 rimfire. A lot of people on other forums really knock them, as well as most Taurus revolvers. I want to hear from people who have actually owned one. Good or bad.
I would really like to get a DA medium/large frame rimfire, but don't want to spend the $800 for a S&W 617 if I don't have to.
My own opinion of Taurus revolvers got a boost when I bought a Public Defender Poly a few weeks ago. My first Taurus anything. So far it has been perfect. Accurate, and reliable.

I bought a used 970. The cylinder was binding so I sent it to Taurus.  Now it is one sweet shooting DA stainless rimfire.
I would ask the seller where you buy it if the will return it to Taurus  if a problem happens . this will save you shipping costs.

I wanted a Smith too but the cost was too much at the time.  Now I can shoot plastic water bottles at 25 to 50 yards DA with my Taurus.  its DA trigger pull is almost unreal.

I have a Tracker 990 for over a year now and have put several bricks of 22 LR through it in that time.  It is a great shooter and as accurate as I am.  I have nothing bad to say about the one I got.  It is a dandy 9 shot shooting machine.

I have one with a 2 X scope on it that has had several thousand rounds through it. Killed a lot of
critters from racoons to chipmunks. Double action trigger pull is heavy but single is smooth as
a custom trigger. I own Rugers and Smiths in .22 and it shoots as good as any of them and better than some. I got the gun on a trade and shot it with open sights for a while. Was impressed with the accuracy and scoped it. Taurus has let some bad guns get out, so have the other gun companies.
For the money spent and the service I have got out of their guns I can't complain. I own a bunch of Taurus guns and would buy one today if I saw one I wanted. Before I buy or trade for any gun I go
over it. Revolvers I check barrel, cylinder alignment with a rod and the gun cocked on every chamber. Check the action double and single for rough and tight or loose places all the way around
the cylinder. This is something I do with "Every" gun I buy or trade for. An expensive lesson learned
with a high dollar Colt, so Taurus is not alone in the "Bad" gun thing at times.
